Iraqis 'will forgive jail abuse' (says General Kimmitt)
Edited on Sun May-30-04 11:23 AM by CShine
The people of Iraq will forgive US-led occupying forces for the Abu Ghraib prison scandal, according to a senior coalition spokesman. Brig Gen Mark Kimmitt told the BBC's Talking Point programme that the photos of abuse by US soldiers at the Baghdad jail were not representative.

He described the scandal as a "failure of leadership" involving a maximum of 20 soldiers. It was being fully investigated by the US military, Gen Kimmitt added.

The abuses committed at Abu Ghraib, the feared Saddam Hussein-era prison now run by coalition forces, outraged the world after a stream of photos apparently taken by guards emerged. One soldier has been convicted and six others are facing military charges over their alleged abuse of detainees at the jail.

"It's because the scale of this was so small that the people of Iraq will forgive us," said Gen Kimmitt, the deputy director of coalition operations in Iraq. "Most of the people in Iraq recognise that was an isolated incident and our investigations continue to demonstrate that it is fairly isolated and not representative of the 135,000 soldiers who are doing the right thing under tough circumstances every day."

9. How many civilian dead now? Between 10k and 20k.
This shows just how focused they are on the fact that they got BUSTED, not that they feel remorse for the actions.

They only care about what got put on film, not about the Fallujah massacre, and the slaughter of the wedding party, or any of the tragedies they caused, the lives lost because of lies, lies, lies.

22. Indirectly, yes, I agree but Kimmitt's arrogance belies any...
"altruistic" tendencies. He must lie because, if the bush admin goes down, so does he so, imo, he is protecting his own ass by lying which, by extension, protects the higher chain of command.

16. Odd
A Newsweek correspondent reporting on CNN from Baghdad said that it is "Impossible to overestimate" the damage done to US credibility in Iraq by the torture scandal.

One Iraqi released from Abu Ghraib this week had only two words for the gathered reporters: "America stinks".

Kimmett is living in a fantasy world.

23. What ? did he talk to all the Iraqis and they told him it's O.K.?
So the Gen'ral went door to door and every person said it's O.K. that U.S. troops, mercenaries, and Israeli "specialists" tortured, raped, wounded, and executed many Iraqi citizens including children.
Everyone was O.K. with the fact that 9 out of 10 being held at Abu Garib prison were guilty of absolutely nothing and were just rounded up for no reason.

And at each of the 1 million doors he personally knocked , Kimmit was invited in and offered milk and cookies.

... and then he signed autographs

Ha Ha Ha...
Forgiven?

So the people there are so nice and forgiving of wrongs done to them!
Well isn't that special!
That's why U.S. troops are still killing them daily.

32. Let's give this guy every credit that is due him...
Who is Gen. Mark Kimmitt?

Brig. Gen. Mark T. Kimmitt, US Army, is the spokesman for the US military in Iraq. He is also the deputy operations commander. He currently is the main apologist for US misdeeds in Falluja and southern Iraq.

As part of his PR efforts, he frequently employs email. His email address is kimmitt.m (at) skynet.be <mailto:kimmitt.m (at) skynet.be>. He used the private Belgian ISP during his service at NATO's SHAPE headquarters in Belgium

Kimmitt's father, Joseph Stanley (Stan) Kimmitt, a former Col. in Army (an artilleryman like Mark), has parlayed his military service into a Washington, DC, public relations, or lobbyist, firm -- Kimmitt, Senter, Coates, & Weinferter. As Gen. Kimmitt promotes the war in Iraq, his father represents defense contractors such as Textron Defense Systems, Talley Defense Systems, and Boeing (maker of the Army's Apache attack helicopter).

The Kimmitts are a classic example of the revolving-door syndrome of U.S. military officers and defense contractors. Such double-dipping is commonplace. It is one of the things President Eisenhower meant when he referred to the dangers of the "military-industrial complex." It is a self-replicating monster that feeds on war, death, and destruction

35. From seven bad apples to twenty bad apples
It gets more and more difficult to sustain the ludicrous assertion that the orders for torture, abuse, humiliation, and murder did not come right from the top.

Also, Krazy Kimmit is adding another abuse to the total, by assuming that Iraqis will forgive him and his army. He clearly doesn't understand the real nature of forgiveness - it can only be granted by the aggrieved party, not yanked from them or beaten out of them. Once more he reveals the mentality of an immature bully.

Kimmitt is speaking from LA LA Land folks.
He has no concept of people that do not look and speak like he does.
All he knows is war and power.

May he be invited to a Wedding Celebration in Iraq and see what it feels like to be "mistaken" for a "terraist" That would be poetic justice.

I have to keep reminding myself that this is 2004 and this is the USA. I keep hearing these Nazis and can't believe that this is 2004 and they have zero compassion for those that don't think and look like they do.
