West Nile fatality first in county (Boulder)
The Daily Camera and the E.W. Scripps Company

A 67-year-old Boulder woman who died six days after the onset of a fever, disorientation and fatigue had West Nile virus, Boulder County health officials confirmed Saturday. --

About 80 percent of people infected by West Nile virus will never feel symptoms. Of the people who do, about one in 30 will develop potentially fatal meningitis or encephalitis.

In Boulder County, 21 people had tested positive for West Nile virus as of Friday and two of them had developed meningitis. Harmon did not know their conditions Saturday, and updated numbers were not available.

Twelve new cases have been reported statewide, but that number may be low because the health department was having computer problems.

The Boulder woman is the state's fifth West Nile death. ---
