Moran Wins 8th District Primary
This sucks. Moran is an idiot and Rosenberg would have been a much better congressman.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A25332-2004Jun8.html

Rep. James P. Moran Jr. won today's Democratic primary in Virginia's 8th Congressional District, defeating challenger Andrew M. Rosenberg in a contest that has focused more on personal issues than policy.

With more than four-fifths of the vote counted, Moran led with 58 percent of the vote to 42 percent for Rosenberg, according to an Associated Press vote count. Moran now faces Republican candidate Lisa Marie Cheney of Alexandria, who was chosen May 15 at a party convention.

Many of the voters interviewed today who supported Moran said they came out to vote because they thought the seven-term congressman had been unfairly characterized in the race. Supporters said he continued to be an effective representative for the district despite several political and personal controversies in recent years.

Some who voted for Rosenberg said they knew little about the 36-year-old Alexandria attorney but were determined to vote against the incumbent.

2. I live in the 8th district and voted for Moran!
He's been a great representative for our district. He may have made a few politically incorrect blunders but at least he's out there fighting!

4. Why?
Moran is a horrible, horrible person. He doesn't just make political blunders, he has ethical issues. He pretty much assaulted another congressman and is just a mean and now ineffective congressman. His fellow democrats hate him so much, he can't do anything. He's just a jackass!

5. Wow. Your post really, really confuses me.
I'm sorry but,...I just do not understand.

I mean, who doesn't have "ethical issues" these days?

Please, elaborate,...please.

8. how about
his getting a sweetheart loan from MBNA (the huge credit card company) and then immediately turning around and voting for anti-consumer legislation that MBNA was lobbying for., Then there is his physically attacking a small black boy (about 8 years old) who made a joke about his car. He's a hothead that takes gifts from lobbyists then votes for their legislation. We can do better in the 8th, but it will have to wait another 2 years.

3. Moran had the balls to point out the stranglehold of Israel extremists
in the neo-cons and this administration.

Until we address this issue, there will never be a fair resolution to the Middle East problems. He had the guts to flag it, and was promptly derided as anti-semitic, as one would expect.

Support for Israel is one thing, but unconditional support is not only impractical but doomed. There are less Jews now than there were a hundred years ago, and I'd hate to see them have to endure another disaster; it's the only one of the major religions that I have much sympathy for at all.

For his stance speaking some rare reality, he deserves to remain in the House. What else he has or hasn't done I don't know, but for this nuanced moment of candor, I hope he's around for a long time.

9. No, Moran blamed JEWS
He didn't call them ISREALI extremists mainly because he wasn't referring to Israelis. He was referring to AMERICANS.

And in doing so, he helped those Sharon-extremists by making it easier for them to misportray criticism as anti-semitism.

Until we address this issue, there will never be a fair resolution to the Middle East problems

And you can thank that Moran for making this issue harder to address.
