Rumsfeld approved interrogation
Rumsfeld approved interrogation

June 9, 2004

US Defence Secretary (W-ar criminal) Donald Rumsfeld last year approved 24 interrogation techniques for use on suspected Taliban and al-Qaeda prisoners in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, including seven techniques that were not in the army's field manual for interrogation, a Pentagon spokesman said today.

Among the detainees are Australians David Hicks and Mamdouh Habib.

Commanders were required to give Rumsfeld seven days' notice before using four of the additional techniques, but three other additional techniques required no special notification, said Bryan Whitman.

"At this point in time, I can't tell you specific techniques because those remain classified," he said.

9. Right, but there is a Raygun news blackout, so Bush's poll numbers...
will likely rise this week. The GOP will milk the death of Iran-Contra arms-for-hostages (and cocaine) terrorist Raygun for all it's worth.

11. Which is why I keep advocating mass protests on their doorsteps.
They (the media) are disseminating skewed information.

We can mass protest all over the freakin' place and be marginalized by that most powerful influence (the media),...unless we flood our will upon them.

Why aren't we bringing our power to bear upon THAT profit-bending "influence" which is entirely too neglectful of its duty to the best interests of the people?

3. I'm at a complete loss ...
What does it take for this man to have the decency to resign? He's an embarrassment to both our Military and the American People. I hope Bush has one shred of honor left and fires Donald Rumsfeld.

4. As Seymour Hersh has said, no one in the Bush
Administration has a shred of integrity. To expect Bush, a consummate liar himself to fire rumsfeld is expecting too much.

14. hate to burst your bubble
but one must first posses any honor or decency to "have a shred left" and this thing has none, never had any and doesn't appear to know how to get to the "honor, decency and dignity" store to purchase his first batch.

5. I need 7 days to get a flight so I can be there for the testicle torching
and don't forget to get me one of those dial devices; I hate using the switch, there's no finesse in that. Don't forget to have it catered too, and the wet bar, natch.

13. Amnesty calls for war crimes investigation
Amnesty International called Tuesday for a special counsel to investigate whether U.S. officials are guilty of war crimes for the treatment of prisoners.

Amnesty's call comes as numerous memos have been disclosed outlining Justice Department and Pentagon legal justifications to allow prisoners captured in the war on terror to be tortured if necessary. Torture is forbidden by U.S. and international law.

Attorney General John Ashcroft came under sharp attack for the contents of the memos at a Senate Foreign Relations Committee Tuesday.

Ashcroft said the Bush Administration opposes torture, and said the legal opinions were simply background work done as the Pentagon reviewed its interrogation procedures for prisoners at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base.

17. How do you train people against torture?
"But there were "competing interests" against disclosure, he added, saying "a certain amount of ambiguity" was desirable because public knowledge of the techniques would make it easier for terrorists to train to counter them."

This sounds like an excuse to not reveal facts that would or should be profoundly shocking.
