Sharon Corruption Probes Gather Momentum
JERUSALEM Aug. 11 — (AP)

Corruption inquiries against Ariel Sharon have picked up in intensity, raising for the first time the faint possibility the prime minister could be forced from office. But many Israelis believe the allegations will eventually fizzle.

Polls suggest two-thirds of Israelis believe Sharon is hiding something from the police, but almost as many people say he shouldn't step down. ---

1. "But many Israelis believe the allegations will eventually fizzle"

Sharon is presently in the midst of what could be considered a historic moment. Like Bush this scandal might leave Sharon unscathed and while a percentage of the Israeli population might not approve of Sharon's policies (as we here in america do not approve of Bush policies), that he is in the midst of "peace" negotiations and eliminating Israel's security problem, this scandal may prove inconsequential to the bigger picture.
