Laura Bush says no to Stem cells
<http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml;jsessionid=AR5G1BHAOCSCUCRBAE0CFFA?type=politicsNews&storyID=5383174>

Reuters.

But Mrs. Bush said she did not endorse Nancy Reagan's call, already rebuffed by the White House, to allow greater stem cell research to proceed in the hope it would provide some answers to the disease or possibly a cure.

The Bush administration has placed restrictions on embryonic stem cell research and opposes using stem cells from most embryos, a stand Mrs. Bush said she supported.

i guess listening to someone speaking in tongues has affected her, after all.

2. Perhaps after Bush's brain deteriorates further
She will change her mind about stem cell research. I don't think we will have long to wait.

4. My thoughts too
Thought First Ladies weren't supposed to have an opinion on anything. Could have sworn I heard that said for 8 years.

8. She's the parrot of the administration.
I agree.
I don't know who she is supposed to be talking to. All the other Stepford wives already obey the rules of subservancy. She isn't going to change anyone's opinion just because she is parroting the words of the administration. It isn't like she thinks things through for herself or anything. (If she did, she wouldn't have married Dubya after such a short courtship.)

What a perfect time for the remake of the Stepford Wives movie to come out. Now the youngsters will have an idea what we are talking about when we use that term.

13. exact;ly, she is running all over having a good old time on Sea Island
Edited on Wed Jun-09-04 11:37 AM by Marianne
at teh G8 summit being photographed driving a golf cart with a big smile on her face.

Yipee--ain't it fun, Laura?

She stuck her fat ass out for Europe to gaze upon once more, while smiling that rictus smile all the while.

She stuck her flaccid, barbie legs out in the presence of the Pope, deliberately flaunting protocol and tradition--there she sat, dress pulled up beyond the knees for all to see her charms.

this is a no no when in a formal Papal audience.

and her husband has murdered thousands of babies and innocent people.

This unaccomplished woman, this slob, is being manufactured into a PR "loverly" and "gentile" but "strong" first lady.

How pathetic. If she has any sense of reflection, she must, in her quiet times wonder why she has to be manufactured thus.

The realisation that she is a piece of nothing ,having not much to be admired for, must sink in at one point, if indeed she is capable of reflection. She may be as clueless as the baby killer, her husband but she sure does like them travel perks, eh?

She is dumb as doorknobs and is quite happy to go globe trotting on our money, playing the part of the Queen, Marie Antoinette. She loves traveling on our money, being lauded, and hands kissed by world leaders as if she has actually accomplished something in her life.

She has never had it so good and I suspect will not give it up willingly. No one ever before has paid this much attention to Laura the stupid. And people in this country cannot afford health care and medicine. People who have worked with their hands and backs for the whole of their lives--cannot afford their medicine. And she could give a shit--all she does is take up the banner to repress women by stating that stem cell research "abuses the embryo", like she was ordered to do.

and, further, she now will try to manufacture a personality for her twin daughters who , we are informed, may be on the campaign stump, giving speeches. Suddenly Jenna will become a Rhodes scholar except that she was so humble that she preferred not to have it be known.

and the other sullen, unhappy looking Barbara will fade into oblivion , seeking "fashion" to perk up her image and make it into something that proves she is indeed not sullen but extremely smart and happy.

but wouldn't it be great if Kerry reached out to Nancy & supported stem cell research & asked her to come to speak on the very issue at the Democratic convention?Nacy endorseing John Kerry would be a slap in Bush's face!

I'd love to see that, or at least Nancy coming out in a news story endorsing Kerry. I think she hates the bush's enough to do it.

9. How moral of her.
Stem cell research and therapy are immoral and unethical, but an illegal war, shredding of The Constitution, rounding up US citizens and sending them to gulags based on their ethnicity, torturing, and killing in disregard of human decency and international law and accords is okay. Hypocritical doesn't come close to what I want to say.

10. Well, she is certainly entitled to her opinion...even if her opinion
would be greatly improved through stem cell research.

11. SHE'S A FLIPPING FREAK
Reagan is a clueless sock puppet needing a diaper change because the fundies for RELIGIOUS REASONS don't want SCIENCE to search for a cure. That's why they WANT TO SHUT UP ronnie's widow.

Copernicus had to contend with this same bullshit when he proposed the earth was not flat but round.

I hope those mother fuckers live out there last days in a cheap nursing home having their DIAPER changed once a day.

LOL

14. Her Remarks March 24,2004
I'm happy that my girls were able to spend so much time with my parents - and to learn and laugh with them. We often tell stories about my dad and relive those great memories from their childhood. It's important to me that they remember their grandfather for the funny, caring, strong man that he was - the man before Alzheimer's. My father was eighty when he was diagnosed with this disease. This was a difficult time for my family, especially for my mother, who saw her husband slipping away bit by bit every day. In many ways we were blessed. Since my parents lived in Midland for five decades, they had fifty years worth of friends who offered support.

and

And many of you have devoted years of your life and your profession to this cause. Because of you, countless Americans are living better lives. We are making progress against this disease every day. A new generation of drugs are under review, and more are in development. And caregivers are receiving greater training and support. For many of you, taking care of a loved one is not a choice, but part of your character. You are wives, husbands, and children who love someone with an illness. But to so many, you are heroes. Loving someone with all your heart is human. Never giving up is heroic.

Remarks by First Lady Laura Bush at the Alzheimer's Association Gala
J.W. Marriott
Washington, D.C.

18. Brilliant Pickles...
Hard to use this Reagan funeral thing effectively when you're chirping about the one thing that could save people like Reagan in the future. Especially after his widowed wife called out for help in stem cell research.
