Some Oppose Bush's Mideast Teacher Plan
SAVANNAH, Ga. -- It may seem innocent enough to President Bush, the notion of training 100,000 teachers across the Middle East to improve the quality of education and perhaps also cut down on the chance that religious schools will crank out future terrorists.

Yet Arabs and Europeans at the Group of Eight summit here are bristling over this and other aspects of Bush's proposed Middle East democracy initiative. They consider it a heavy-handed effort to foist American ideas on a region with ideas of its own.

British Prime Minister Tony Blair tried on Wednesday to tamp down those worries.

"What we're doing today is to say, 'Look, sensible people sitting down and looking at the situation in the Middle East know there needs to be a process of reform and change,'" Blair said. "Now, that's not for us to dictate to people, but it is for us to help them get there."

2. Let the conversions begin!
Once we get them religion we'll
work on setting them up with lighter skin, blonde hair
and blue eyes. And, of course, they'll have to stop talking that mumbo
jumbo and start speaking English, with a Texas accent.

4. Pot calling Kettle
"cut down on the chance that religious schools will crank out future terrorists"

Uh, don't we have the same problem here in the United States. Teachers refusing to teach evolution because of religious reasons and parents withdrawing their kids from school and homeschooling them because not enough religion in in our US schools.

God why doesn't anyone see the hypocrisy?

7. My kids' school district just laid off 41 employees
...but we have plenty of money to hire teachers in Iraq. Maybe I should just dress my ten-year-old daughter in a burka so she can get a quality education.
