White Plains, New York-APThe Equal Opportunity Commission, investigating a case that was settled out of court more than a year ago, has found that a law firm owned by David Boies, who was Al Gore's lawyer during the 2000 election recount, discriminated against women in both wages and working conditions.
Spencer Lewis, the New York district director of the E-E-O-C, found that the firm, Boies, Schiller and Flexner maintained a two-tier system of compensation one for lawyers on the partnership track, one for the others which was not applied uniformly, resulting in discrimination against female attorneys. --
Katherine Eskovitz, a senior associate, said the Armonk-based firm was ``upset and disappointed'' by the ruling.
She said 20 percent of the firm's partners are women which she says is among the highest of any other top-tier law firm. --
