Mitt’s message to the nation on gay marriage: Don’t Mass. it up |
|
http://news.bostonherald.com/election2004/view.bg?articleid=32865Gov. Mitt Romney turns up the heat on Sen. John F. Kerry today by joining Republicans pushing a national gay marriage ban seen as an attempt to embarrass Kerry days before his nomination next month. Romney, an ardent opponent of gay marriage, will urge the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee in Washington to ensure other states don't follow Massachusetts into gay marriage legalization. ``This is what happened in Massachusetts,'' Romney will say, according to his prepared testimony, provided to the Herald. ``It is in your hands to determine whether or not this will be the fate of the nation.''

1. What about state's rights? |
|
Or is that just another quaint Republican party platform gone the way of small government?
Man, it must be as rough to be a traditional Republican as it is to be a traditional Democrat. Sigh....

2. How Mitt Romney ever got elected in the state of MA is beyond me.. |
|
"Romney is fleeing the state once again to talk about the one issue that he's been vocal on, taking away people's basic civil rights and fronting for the Bush-Cheney campaign,'' said Jane Lane, spokeswoman for the Massachusetts Democratic Party."
"Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) is angling to get the proposed federal constitutional gay marriage amendment before the full Senate the week of July 11 - forcing Kerry and other Democrats into a potentially damaging vote on the volatile issue of same-sex marriage."
"The vote could come as little as a week before Kerry is nominated at the Democratic National Convention in Boston. Sources in Washington said Republicans doubt the bill will fly in the Senate, but are forcing a vote on principal."
"A spokeswoman for Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), chairman of the committee, rejected suggestions that today's hearing was a meaningless rehash of previous hearings. ``Gov. Romney is in a unique position in that he is from the only state where the courts have forced the people to recognize gay marriage, so he offers a valuable perspective,'' said the spokeswoman, Margarita Tapia."
..carpetbagger is right! Go Home Mitt!

12. Weld was bad enough...... |
|
now we have a fool named "Mitt" for a governor. Maybe someone can find something illegal he's done so we can get rid of him like Connecticut did. }(

8. The Dems candidate was weak |
|
Shannon O'Brien- nothing wrong with her personally but she was a weaker candidate compared to some of the others who lost the nomination to her. Hopefully Mitt will only be in 1 term, he's such an idiot.

13. Shannon wasn't weak. She had more support than any other candidate |
|
on the ticket. I admired her drive and ambition. Unfortunately, she had lots of history in MA government and, for voters, that translated into government as usual. I have great respect for Warren Tolman and Jill Stein but they weren't going to be elected - O'Brien had the only chance. Now look at what we have!
Mitt is mormon - maybe he has a couple of extra wives floating around, I bet that's against the law in Massachusetts!

Why don't come back here and do your job of running Massachusetts, instead of running for president or bitching about how Kerry isn't doing his job?
