Report: Guantanamo Prisoners May Move to U.S.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. officials may move hundreds of prisoners from a base in Cuba to facilities within the United States after Supreme Court rulings that granted military detainees access to U.S. courts, the Los Angeles Times reported on Wednesday.

Pentagon and Justice Department officials said they were considering moving all the prisoners from the U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to a conservative judicial district within the United States, according to the newspaper.

Consolidating the proceedings in one court would avoid transporting prisoners and government lawyers to federal courts across the country, the report said.

3. Are you guys Beavis and Butthead or something?
Couldn't you be a little more constructive like:

They are just trying to move the detainees to US soil so that some judge can rule that it is permissible for the government to 'detain' citizens without access to a free and open trial. The court didn't rule that these people have full rights by any means, after all, they are still being detained.

4. Forum shopping
...they'll probably go for the most conservative DCA. You don't know what judge you'll get at the district court level.

5. I agree, but will the prisoners make it out alive?
So far they've not had to fight for their lives in a US prison system. This is news that frightens me yet again. Better yet, why don't they open Gitmo up and make it operate within US laws/regulations for prison systems and just leave them there until such time that they are to be tried and keep them isolated from the regular population while in US for trials?

Maybe I'm being paranoid, but I don't see any good coming out of this with patriotic weirdos in the prison system looking to rape and abuse them even more.
