Hillary: Cheney needs 'anger management' for F-word outburst
http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2004/6/30/112839.shtml

U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton, blasting Vice President Dick Cheney on Tuesday for allegedly using the "F" word during an argument with Sen. Pattrick Leahy last week, said he needed to enroll in an "anger management" course.

"So far as I know, no colleague has ever used profanity of that sort on the Senate floor," the outraged Democrat complained to the Seattle Post Intelligencer.

"For the vice president to use his position, as president of the Senate, to insult a senator and then be unapologetic about it introduces a level of discord into Senate procedure that is unfortunate," Clinton continued.
According to Post-Intelligencer columnist Joe Connelly, who interviewed Clinton, "the 'gentlewoman from New York' suggested that Cheney enroll in an anger management course."

Oh, I'll bet lots of stuff gets muttered underbreath, and not-so-underbreath.

Edited on Wed Jun-30-04 01:30 PM by SemperEadem
Cheney owes the whole country an apology for that one because he has, basically, taken a shit on our esteem and refuses to clean it up... in fact, he's daring you to not breathe the longer he refuses to correct this.

I'm sure she wasn't outraged--typical Newsmax BS that overshadows the nice jab she got in about anger management.

Outraged = any Democrat who points out where a Republican screwed something up or said something stupid.

Why, it just wouldn't do to give their readers the impression that a Democrat can criticize anything in a level-headed manner.

(Unless, of course, you go all Zell Miller and start criticizing other Democrats - then you're suddenly a voice of reason.)

3. Ha! I can just hear Cheney's response to this....
"F**ck you b*tch! Don't tell me I need to take a f**cking god d*mn anger management class you piece of s*it!"

You know what suprises me the most about this Cheney anger thing? The fact that he actually feels emotion. Granted it's anger, but it's still more than I thought he was capable of feeling.

21. It *does* matter
It matters because it shows what contempt Cheney et al have for anyone who's not on board with them. I don't have a problem with people on the Net shouting "f*ck you" at each other, or people on the street shouting it at politicians--that amounts to free speech and dissent. This is just base contempt and a total lack of respect for a very old and respected protocol that is supposed to be maintained in the Senate. In effect, Cheney said "f*ck you" to America when he did that.

26. "lack of respect for a very old and respected protocol"
And I thought respect for traditional protocol was a cause that conservatives championed.

Inappropriate comments and obscenities have been muttered under politicians' breaths since their invention; but protocol is the element which keeps negotiations and arguments civil. Cheney's breech of protocol is under-classed only by his refusal to apologize for his incivility.

Hillary's correct. Cheney's unrepentant attitude indicates a need for anger management.

33. He's pissed for two reasons:
Edited on Wed Jun-30-04 01:21 PM by calimary
His last experience before the election hijacking was as a CEO. In the business world, you say and do whatever you want in the board room, the executive suites, the country club, etc. You get to live large, and be the top gun, and you get a king's ransom for salary and benefits, and you get AWFULLY spoiled, AWFULLY quickly. You ARE God, basically, and you can do whatever you want, because you run the show. People have to bow and scrape if they want to keep their jobs. They have to do what you say without question because you sign their paychecks and hold their careers in your hands. You're the boss. THAT is what he became VERY comfortable. And by the way, that's NOT how government runs, which is why the government can never be run like a business. The CEO is beholden to no one except maybe the board of directors and/or stockholders. Certainly NOT to his employees or his staff. It's the other way around. And that is NOT how government is structured. He still hasn't gotten the memo that says his current job is as a public SERVANT. He works for US and WE supposedly call the shots. (Yeah, I know, I know.)

So when some uppity pipsqueak (his thoughts, not mine) like Patrick Leahy comes up and gets in his face a little and asks annoying questions of his anointed omnipotent sun-god-ship, he's probably thinking "if this were Halliburton, or the private sector, I could fire your ass and have you taking orders at McDonald's faster than shit through a goose." This rubs him the wrong way and goes against everything he's become used to since he went back into the private sector - of being the big-ass boss man whose word is God's own. How DARE that Leahy question him!?!? So he's pissed that he's stuck in this system where pissants (in his view, no doubt) like Leahy can give him grief and he can't fire his ass. So he spouts off.

Second, HE IS FEELING THE HEAT. From a LOT of things that have his name on it. Like the war. Like the run-up for war. Like the Plame Game. Like maybe Torturegate, too? Like the stovepiped intel that his buddy-boy, "Scooter" rigged for him so he could deal with Chalabi without those annoying bureaucratic, know-nothing, pencil-pusher middlemen in the CIA who kept telling him all the things he didn't want to hear, especially since he knew better. Like his heart - which, you can bet - is bothering him again. You don't get into messes this big, and this public, with this much potential for REAL shitstorms coming down on your head, without suffering a few palpitations. Especially with a ticker as faulty as his. God only knows how much medication he's taking every day. My mom has a bad heart and a pace-maker and has been living on borrowed time for almost 15 years now, and you should see the pill bottles lined up on her bathroom countertop. And she's not under the stress he's under, nor is she facing the kind of nightmares he is. Nor is she facing the kind of Judgment Day after death that he is, for offenses as grievous as he's committed. And I think, deep down, he knows it. I bet he feels the cold breath of the Grim Reaper on the back of his neck every day. That's why he looks like he does, now.

That said, do I feel sorry for him?

In a pig's eye. Reap what you sow, dick. And go fuck yourself, while you're at it, 'eh?

51. great post
and I think it is right on. Surely this is a man who cares not about this country except on the issues that will make more money for him.

None of this regime seems to be aware of their responsibility to the people of the country. I do not believe they care. Their sights are set on higher things such as power and money over the entire world. They indeed, do view their unelected status, as their boardroom, and that explains all of the secrecy and all of the bullying and arrogance.

I'm also wondering whats got them so riled up. Do they see the writing on the wall that they will be gone come next January? Is the investigation in the Palme outing for real (indictments coming)? Or has Dick "go fuck yourself" Cheney been told that he will be replaced as veep by McCain or Gulliani?

As for the Jewish slur, it was reported by one person, and denied by another who was there.

And there's a difference between swearing in private and doing so on the floor of the US Senate, and then thinking you hae suddenly grown cajones because you're too small a human being to apologize.

18. Learn your history, Hillary!
http://www.senate.gov/artandhistory/history/minute/The_Caning_of_Senator_Charles_Sumner.htm
On May 22, 1856, the "world's greatest deliberative body" became a combat zone. In one of the most dramatic and deeply ominous moments in the Senate's entire history, a member of the House of Representatives entered the Senate chamber and savagely beat a senator into unconsciousness.

http://permanent.access.gpo.gov/lps12426/www.senate.gov/learning/min_4f.html
On February 22, 1902, John McLaurin, South Carolina's junior senator raced into the Senate chamber and pronounced that state's senior senator, Ben Tillman, guilty of "a willful, malicious, and deliberate lie." Standing nearby, Tillman spun around and punched McLaurin squarely in the jaw. The chamber exploded in pandemonium as members struggled to separate the South Carolina delegation. In a long moment, it was over, but not without stinging bruises both to bystanders and to the Senate's sense of decorum.

(OK, this one wasn't IN the Senate)
http://www.senate.gov/artandhistory/history/minute/Duel_By_The_Lake.htm
Throughout the Senate's history, members, like baseball players, have taken satisfaction from setting records. One exception was California Senator David Broderick. In September 1859, Broderick established a record that remains unbroken. He became the first sitting senator to die in a duel.

http://www.senate.gov/artandhistory/history/minute/Bitter_Feelings_In_the_Senate_Chamber.htm
In his April 1850 address, Vice President Fillmore lamented that, since many senators appeared reluctant to call their colleagues to order, he would do his duty to contain the first spark of disorder before it ignited a conflagration that would be more difficult to control... When he ruled Missouri Senator Thomas Hart Benton out of order, Kentucky's Henry Clay, no friend of Benton, angrily charged that the vice president's action was an attack on the power and dignity of the Senate. The ensuing debate sparked a bitter exchange between Benton and Mississippi Senator Henry Foote (pictured). As the burly Benton pushed aside his chair and moved menacingly up the center aisle toward the diminutive Foote, Foote pulled a pistol. As pandemonium swept the chamber, Benton bellowed, "I have no pistols! Let him fire! Stand out of the way and let the assassin fire!"

So really, saying Fuck You is kinda mild in retrospect...

Really, if the Murrica Uber Alles Family Values set is going to go around saying "fuck" in the Senate, they deserve to get called on it.

Frankly, though, in my view, the Senate would be a better place if "fuck" were said more often. At least that would introduce a modicum of honesty to the discourse there. ;-)
