Howard Stern Announces Nine New Markets
Howard Stern Announces Nine New Markets

By Elizabeth LeSure Associated Press Writer
Published: Jun 30, 2004

NEW YORK (AP) - Howard Stern announced Wednesday that his syndicated morning show would appear in nine new markets, including four where his show was axed by the nation's largest radio chain for alleged indecency.

Stern said his program would air on stations in Houston; San Diego; Tampa, Fla.; Pittsburgh; Orlando, Fla.; Austin, Texas; West Palm Beach, Fla.; Rochester, N.Y.; and Fresno, Calif., all owned by Infinity Broadcasting.

Clear Channel Communications suspended Stern in February and dropped the country's best-known shock jock from its stations in Rochester, Orlando, San Diego, Pittsburgh and two other markets after complaints by federal regulators.

...

"The FCC is on a witch hunt," he said.

20. Re: HS returning to San Diego (and Orlando, and Pittsburgh)
Stern has said several times that his contract with the sinister cabal Clear Channel includes a clause that allows him to sell the show to another station in a given market if his show is dropped for any reason. He's also explained that under his contract Clear Channel must pay off the balance of their obligation even though they no longer air the show. CC is resisting the latter requirement but Howard says he's been down this road before and has always won in the courts. From CC's point of view this must be the worst of all possible worlds: their stations that formerly aired Stern are likely to see their morning drive - time ratings vaporize when he comes back on competing stations, and Clear Channel will be paying him while he destroys their ratings.

21. Yup! Isn't It Beautiful How This Has Totally Backfired On CC?!
Stern's back in the markets and the new stations will now TROUNCE CC stations in the markets. CC will ultimately have to pay up the rest of Howard's contract. And the icing on the cake, they tried to censor Stern and quiet him because of his anti-Bush stance and in doing so they created a MONSTER. He's louder and more pissed off than I've ever seen him!!

CC is getting fucked in every direction from their idiotic decision to try to take Stern down. It's a beautiful thing!!

24. So does this mean CC won't play anymore Dixie Chicks Music?
At least until Howard makes a formal apology, Howard I never listened to your show before, but you have added a new listener to your show now. I will support you and your sponsors, gladly!

so that you could say:

Legally changed his name to F. Erik Norris.

How many people really catch that amusing little tidbit?

8. Free Speech WARRIOR Howard Stern!
He's not only not giving up, he's taking right to the scumbags backyard by adding two stations in TEXAS!!! Yeeehaw!!!!

Howard is a man on a mission and when he's like this he is dangerous indeed to those who cross him. I've never seen him this pissed off and I've been a listener from the beginning.

13. "i'll be off the air anyday..."
how many times did he say that over the last six months? i'm sorry, but the guy's an opportunist like every other major celebrity/personality. He rode the censorship train to a better pay day while never being in danger of losing anything substantial.

14. Actually he is still in danger of losing it all
I don't know if you noticed it or anything but the Senate passed that indecency bill...

If signed by the preznit he would risk financial ruin to do the kind of show he wants.

He got added to some markets, big deal. If he can't do the show the way he wants it makes no difference.

18. yes, but like a greek tragedy, he will ultimately be part of *'s undoing.
The whole thing has a classic literature storyline. Stern has been awokened by his fines and firings in a political way no one could have imagined, and his daily pounding of President Shrub is more free advertising and education than any opposing candidate could ever afford. The Clear Channel censorship has made Stern louder than imaginable. What a story.

16. No Danger Of Losing Anything Substantial??
You're pretty clueless. He can now be PERSONALLY fined a half a million dollars per incident at the discretion of the Michael Powell, or essentially at the discretion of Bushco. They are digging through his archives of shows from years ago to fine him for things retroactively. He could realistically and quite probably will be PERSONALLY fined millions of dollars after the indecency bill is signed into law for things he said years ago. They can ruin him financially. He's taking a HUGE chance by remaining on the air and he's doing it because he's decided to fight the fascists and put his personal fortune on the line.

Get a clue.

22. He said at the press conference today
That if the new bill that allows the FCC to fine individuals to gets signed into law, it will be the end of his show as we know it.

He said that he loves what he does, but won't face being bankrupted by fines or from fighting the Feds in court over it, and that he'll honor his contract, but if the proposed changes go into place, he'll just play music on his show until his agreement with Infinity expires.

The guy's putting his career on the line to see that Bush gets defeated. He's put himself right in the crosshairs of Bushco and the FCC.

That takes some serious huevos no matter what people think of his show.
