Laura Bush raises her voice (a bit)
http://www.usatoday.com/news/politicselections/nation/president/2004-06-29-laura-bush-cover_x.htm

"Laura Bush never really was just a demure librarian. But a more confident, glamorous and outspoken first lady is now on display for what she wistfully notes will be her final campaign."

"The Betty Crocker hairdo has been replaced by a sleek coif with streaks of blonde. Her toenails, peeking out from comfy espadrilles, are bright red. She still prefers to talk about education and reading, her pet issues and avocations, but she can dish up justifications for the war in Iraq, too."

"Bush came onto the stage wearing a finely tailored sage green pantsuit to long and loud cheers. As she began to speak, one woman shouted out, "We love you!" Now her job is to humanize her husband, who has trouble attracting female voters. His campaign advisers are so confident she can help in that regard that she has been prominently featured in several campaign TV ads."

Mods, I think this is breaking, because it is front page of the USA Today, but also another clear indictment of our "Librul" media!

Where is the outrage? Does anyone remember the scorn and ridicule our last officially elected First Lady received because she changed her hairdo and clothes? Where is Rush and Sean to tell us how phony Laura is?

This puff piece should be plastered right next to all the vitriol Hillary got when she changed her style.

20. Oh well she wears sling back shoes
Edited on Wed Jun-30-04 05:55 PM by Marianne
and wears bright red nail polish. Her badly botched

eye lift is waning making her look cross eyed ever the more,

but never mind, she waves, dutifully from the White House balcony, sending off
"her man" as he embarks on the more serious business of empire, something she has no cognisance of, and has no participation in being the "little woman" doncha know.

This poor woman is willingly a poor, ignorant Stepford of a woman.

She is a willing participant in her own image of stupidity.

She is manufactured down to her "glamor and her sling back shoes" That NEVER match the outfit she is wearing.

Actually, nothing matches in her outfits that are usually an insult to American women.

Ugh--it really is embarrassing''

Cannot a rich first lady be aware of her image and do something better than this?

Look at the fit of the pants. This is really not excusable.

Someone tells her what to wear and she does it. Apparently she never looks in the mirror.

as are her daughters who are interested in
fashion and who spend thousands of dollars on draping themselves in equally atrocrious and ill fitting, not flattering, designer clothing, as their fatassed mother, who insists upon wearing upholstry clothing, that em-phasizes her fat ass and her drooping breasts that with every photo, seem to be sinking further and further into her waistline.

What a pathetic image we are forced to accept as a first lady.

There are solutions to this problem of the drooping bustline, but she seems to care not about her drooping bustline, into the waist line, although she does have all the money in the world to do something about it and to make her appearance much more pleasing.

She insists upon dressing like a Barbie doll instead of a middle aged woman who is sure of herself.

She, apparently, has been assigned to follow the Barbara Bush, her mother in law, in the pursuit of getting the little poor children to appreciate reading.

This will be her "legacy" following in the footsteps of her mother in law. Not her own mother, but her "mother in law" who is the head of some reading program and is being promoted as an icon interested in children' This Barbara the Bush, the terrible with the "beautiful mind" appeared recently here in the
Farnsworth Museum,. Rockland , Maine, to read to children

Wowl, I am sure all the little poor children were flocking to the Farnsworth, snobby looking museum, to be read to by the bitch, Barbara Bush, who looks down her nose at them all I am sure.

How droll. How hypocritical and how supportive of a son of hers, who stole a presidency , who lies at every opportunity to cover up his inadequacies, while she says, publically, on a TV station that she does not want to bother her "beautiful mind" with the raw fact that hundreds of our soldiers are arriveing home in the middle of the nigth in flag draped coffinc, and the media is forbidden to take pictures and even talk about these warriors being snuck in , back to their home, without a single honor being given to them/.

Barbara Bush could care less about the poor children or their literacy, and neither does her stupid son., Why should she bother her beautiful mind about the poor and their reading abilities if not to promote herself as a wonderful, caring old gramma. All that is important is that her name is attached to some ersatz reading program for the poor children

and Laura is assigned to follow this. She has been assinged to some reading program that follows the parameters of Barbara Bush, in order to anchor the image, the manufactured image of an otherwise banal and subservient, first lady who did nothing all of her life but sponge off her marriage to a rich husband.

Sometimes a little rant is good for the soul.

Since she is just a lump in the bed, will they remain married after he leaves office? I don't think it is much more than a marriage of convenience now. He would rather be with his father and brother than with Laura any day -- a real man's man.

I don't know whether to pity her of dislike her.

4. Stories about what a fine person she is have been sneaking out a lot
The first time I heard one of these I thought, "They must be far more desperate than they act if they are dragging out the pResident's wife to shore up his image."

It's as if they are saying, "Would this fine, stable, W.A.S.P. ever marry a mass-murdering, cold-blooded, brain-damaged, comtemptuous, disrespectful @$$####?"

Your point about Hillary Clinton is very well taken.

42. But she looks like she's adopted the Nancy Reagan "helmet hair"
style. Unfortunately for our Stepford First Lady, she will always stand in the shadow of her imperious (queen) mother-in-law.

Same thing for young george. little bushie will always stand in the shadow of his twerp father. He'll always be the second bush. He'll always be JUNIOR. Except when statisticians start rolling out all the "firsts" - as in: First war of aggression. First war we were so blatantly lied into. First to lower taxes while we were facing and then fighting war. Boosted the budget deficit farther than his dad. Boosted outsourced jobs farther than his dad. Bigger terrorist attack on his watch than on his dad's. A second Iraq war. Torture this time, too. Something his dad can't claim.

12. Yes, and apparently
she is tough enough to stand up to her man too! They tried to show how she is not just a Stepford wife in the article.

"When the president was asked why his wife was not with him, he said, 'The President of China is coming, and she has to sweep the porch'. Later when Laura was asked if she like her hubbies joke, quietly mouthed the word 'no' and shook her head."

My Gawd!! If I had said something like that about my wife in front of a million people, she'd have hit me in the head with a bag of pretzles....Hmmmmm, wonder if that is what really happened to *.

But, she sure is a tough lady, and a true "Texan" from Midland. Maybe someone from there can tell me, what the Cheney is a "true Texan"? I thought the shrub was from Connecticutt?

23. No Matter What Happens in Nov, We'll be OK
Well what about the rest of the world you Cheney-twit?

This is so typical of these sociopaths. It is always about them. Screwed Grandma out of her life's savings by manipulating the price of electricity...but if you're Kenny Boy Lay, laugh it off from your Chenying mansion.

If your kid gets killed in an ill-conceived and unnecessary war, that's too Cheneying bad, because my kids are traipsing through Europe after drinking their way through college with full Secret Service protection.

If we lose in Nov, we'll be OK. Never mind the fact that it will take three generations of Americans working their fingers to the bone to get back our wrecked economy, rebuild our infrastructure, rebuild our schools, and most importantly, rebuild our reputation in the world. WE'LL BE OK!

I'm so Cheneying pissed right now.

Poppy and Bar still aren't over it, and a second one-termer in the family won't sit too well. Jeb's political career will be in the toilet. They'll probably line up his son, who won't be going to Iraq, for a third try at it. He's graduated from law school, and is about to marry, just as his uncle did when he decided to run for office.

and red toenails and streaky hair won't make her any less so. But I guess I am not Rove's target audience. LB always seems so spaced out and disconnected. Barbara Bush, for all her faults, always had a shape in my mind.

Have you noticed that, despite all the RW chatter about "family vales", this 1st family seems really disconnected from each other? All the crap they gave the Clintons, but they really seemed to connect as a family.
