When spliff gets in your eyes... (Cannabis good for night vision)
Giles Tremlett in Madrid

The Guardian

We knew it gave people the munchies and made them giggle. Now researchers claim to have found a new property in cannabis - it helps us see in the dark.

Scientists made their discovery after becoming intrigued by Moroccan fishermen who not only failed to lose their sense of direction after smoking generous amounts of local kif, a mixture of cannabis and tobacco, but seemed to navigate better on dark nights.

"They attribute their ability to see to the consumption of kif that they spend entire hours smoking before getting into their barques," one of the research team, drawn from the US, Spain and Morocco, reported.

Jamaican fishermen have reportedly shown a similar reaction, suggesting that there may be something medically useful in cannabis apart from the pain-deadening properties already spotted by doctors treating cancer patients.

1. I should self medicate more
It works well for Neo-con induced syptoms also.

Yep, there's "something medically useful in cannabis apart from the pain-deadening properties already spotted by doctors treating cancer patients."

2. My guess: dilated pupils=better vision in the dark
Our pupils open up to let more light into our eyes; pot causes them to dilate, so that might have something to do with it.

3. My guess: visualizing the way a blind person does
It could be something along those lines...that the pot induces a more imaginative state of mind.

6. It lowers eye pressure-they use it to treat glaucoma
It's probably a chain effect-lowering the pressure allows the pupils to dilate and let more light in.

Think about how potheads wear shades on overcast days-it's not always a good thing.

7. it's an anti-inflammatory and bronchial dilator too...
whereas nicotine works as a vascular constrictor, pot works as a bronchial dilator, making it easie to breathe. asthmatics can actually breathe easier by smoking pot.

12. I've had problems with night vision, now that I am older.
Too bad I can't smoke and drive! I mean I CAN, but I won't.

I figure Goddess made it, She must want us to USE it, right?

13. Food cures hunger.
I would love to get a grant to study something that has been common knowledge for centuries. I'm betting that those scientists just hung out in Morocco getting stoned and eating fish.
