Kerry, Edwards Debut Team To Throng In St. Petersburg
Edited on Thu Jul-08-04 01:12 AM by tlcandie

<snip>
ST. PETERSBURG - The 2004 presidential battle roared to life in downtown St. Petersburg on Wednesday night as a spirited crowd estimated at 10,000 overwhelmed the first Florida appearance of the John Kerry and John Edwards tandem.
<snip>

<snip>
Campaign aides said about 3,000 people packed into St. Petersburg's landmark Coliseum ballroom, many after waiting three hours or more in a line that at one point snaked more than half a mile through downtown.

Several thousand more waited outside, and Kerry and Edwards spoke to them afterward.

1. More....
<snip>
Landing next in Ohio, Kerry struck back at jabs from President Bush's campaign that Edwards was too inexperienced to serve as vice president or to assume the presidency in an emergency. Bush said Vice President Dick Cheney ``was ready to be president.''

To which Kerry retorted in Dayton: ``He was right that Dick Cheney was ready to take over on Day One, and he did, and he has been ever since, folks.''
<snip>

<snip>
Kerry quoted poet Langston Hughes - ``Let America be America again. Let it be the dream it used to be.'' - and then named Edwards as ``somebody who understands that dream.''

2. Last more .. but still more to the original story....
<snip>
n a conference call with reporters, Bush strategist Ralph Reed scoffed at the idea that Edwards would limit Democratic losses in north Florida.

``The issue for voters in north Florida and the Panhandle and voters in the South generally is not what ZIP code you live in or your accent, but where you stand on the issues,'' he said.

Reed, like other Republican operatives, called Edwards ``the most liberal senator from the South and the fourth-most liberal senator in the country.''

3. I was at St. Pete tonight
I was working as a volunteer staffer. It was great. Huge turnout.

The Fire Marshall shut down entrance after 3,000 people entered the building, and the official police count said 10,000 attended. I talked to a friend inside, who's running for the statehouse, and he said he waited outside for over 3 1/2 hours.

Kerry gave a very good speech, not the stiff, wooden soundbites you see on TV, next was Theresa, then Mrs Edwards, and then John Edwards fired up the crowd as he does so good. After it was older they went outside and spoke and shook hands with all the people who couldn't get in.

Probably had less than 25 Repuke protesters across the street. The times, they are a changin'.

WE'VE GOT A TEAM NOW!!!!

8. That "liberal" tag is totally worn out. We were talking in the gym and
some young guy said "Nobody listens to Limbaugh anymore, that crap is passe' ". Others agreed. I'm in a republican town.

9. "broken bodies discarded by powerful interests in America"
"Kerry said Edwards worked as a trial lawyer to represent and help ``men with broken bodies, who had been discarded by powerful interests in America.''

Do we know class warfare or what?

5. the right is going ape-sh#t over this ticket.
It's a great day. Up in the national polls. Up in Florida and Ohio.
Big crowds. All over the news. Looks like Kerry stepped up to the plate and hit one over the fence.

Back in January, a member of the Republicanic Party said to me, "Kerry had a pancake breakfast and 10 people showed up, ROFLMAO."

Haha, eat crow! We're gonna win.

6. I remember
Back in December, at the Florida Democratic Convention, Kerry was dead in the water, and Howard Dean was king of the world. I was a Dean supporter.

But, I heard Kerry speak at dinner one night and was fairly impressed. The next night I heard Edwards speak, and was very impressed. I still supported Dean, but now realize we've got the best possible team. Bush and Cheney are dead meat.(Bush-meat??)

Lets have some fun and kick some ass!!!!!

7. If you ever read John Edward's book, then you will begin to understand

why it is he has the ability to move crowds. I believe it's his spirit that was nurtured with love and care while young and growing up to see the hardships of his family.

He was very observant and he loved his family dearly. In addition to that, he and his wife lost their son. The man's heart is big enough to help bring about the healing that we need in this country under the tuteledge/leadership of John Kerry.

IMO Edwards will not let Kerry slide into never, never land and will keep his rudder always pointing towards integrity. John Edwards wouldn't have it any other way.

EDIT: typo
