Chambliss tells his staff he has prostate cancer (GA)

WASHINGTON — Sen. Saxby Chambliss of Georgia has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, congressional aides said late Wednesday.

Chambliss, 60, broke the news to his staff Wednesday afternoon, but said nothing about it publicly. Chambliss' aides did not return repeated phone calls late Wednesday. Chambliss' office in Washington would neither confirm nor deny the report to The Associated Press, but indicated that an announcement might be made on Thursday.

But other members of the Georgia delegation got word shortly after Chambliss told his staff.

In an interview with WSB-TV, U.S. Rep. Phil Gingrey, who is a physician, said Chambliss could be expected to recover from the disease.

14. What a horrible thing to say about ANYBODY.
Just posting here as a DU citizen and not as a Mod - you should be ashamed of yourself for saying such a thing about anybody. Yep, he's a turd. But he's also a fellow human being, and you need to think about that.

28. After watching Saxby do his Hatchet job on MAX CLELAND
Its hard to feel sorry for Chambliss. On the other hand we are all going to be old and die some day. I'm sure Cleland takes no pleasure at Saxby suffering from cancer.

Cleland allowed Ralph Reed and his thugs to confuse the voters. And that's why Max lost the election. Saxby is more of a thug than anything else.

Maybe the big guy is showing him the road to some humility--- Remember Chuck Colson???

26. Ben, I am quite finished with think of people as humans who don't think me
human.

FINISHED!

People can only take so much, Ben.

You might not have reached your limit. I have.

You can only be hated and thought of as not a Real American or not a Real Human Being for ONLY SO LONG before you respond in kind.

Fuck that cowardly lying draft dodger, Saxby Chambiss.

I'd like to think that God put that cancer right in his ass as a direct result of him defaming Max Cleleand.

Karma is a bitch, Ben, for all of us.

But don;t expect me to give Nazis, once we KNOW what they ARE, the same respect and belief in humanity that I give Real Human Beings, whether they agree or disagree with them.

Now watch these little Conservative Underground Cowardly (w)itches --you KNOW what I really mean-- go whine and weep and cry and wail about how the Evil DUers are dehumanizing them.

"What, little old US? Demonize our enemeies? Why, we WOULD NEVER say stuff like that about liberals. NEVER!"

Liars. Fucking Nazi Lying Cowardly Crybabies!

I can no longer accord Nazi Monsters the respect due Human Beings.

Even if they are "kinder and genlter" (for the moment) than their Spiritual Antecedents.

Sorry, but I don't think that there is anything in a free speech forum to be pointed out about people's karma coming back at them and calling them what they are....

I've seen far worse on the DU, and it never questioned by a MOD....

6. Oh c'mon... I don't believe in karma or in God's wrath
Was it karma or God's wrath that caused Cleland to lose three limbs? People get cancer and other illnesses because of medical causes. Let's not sound like Colonial-era Salem. I wouldn't have wished cancer on anyone, but I won't be shedding many tears for him either. But his worth as a human being has nothing to do with him getting cancer. The idea that it's a divine punishment is an insult to others who get cancer.

46. thank you, again
Cancer has nothing to do with your political views. Many worthy people get cancer, too. My Dad has prostrate cancer. It's just something that happens.

I am really angry at the RW in this country. Some days I hate them, some days I manage not to. Everyday I work to defeat them. I try not to hate. I try to remember that we are all humans, we are all afraid. Also, when the hate starts to take over my brain, it helps me to try to picture them as little babies. Hard to hate a baby.

That said, I was really gleeful when Ashcroft came down with, what was it, kidney stones? Really painful condition.

25. From a Cancer Survivor
This is a very bad day for me to have any sympathy for this worthless piece of humanity. I have been blessed that I am a 16-year cancer survivor and just moments ago was notified that a very close friend who with myself has been an activist in Cancer causes and the Peace movement had just lost her fight. Last nights local news informed my daughter, a high school teacher, and myself that one of her favorite students had been killed in Iraq. This student graduated in 2000 and his life's ambition was to be a Marine and my daughter teased him about his choice, because he was always the peace maker. He adored her and he always stayed in contact with her and her fellow teachers, through e-mails, and when he was on leave. He died the day his wife (who was also a student of my daughter's) was to give birth to their first born. Because my daughter is a theatre arts teacher and plays an important personal role with her students, I was blessed in meeting this young man many times during the production of their shows or events. My daughter, who is now teaching in Europe and only home on summer break, understands the mess and feelings that this administration has caused throughout the World. Her exact words upon hearing about the death of one of her former students and friend is un-printable.
No today I feel little sympathy for this man who abetted this administration.

36. I personally don't care for the man's politics
But there are certain people who should be given the full dose of vengeance that can be summoned. However, one bright thing might come out of this: he might leave office, and force a special election to fill his position. If that happens, perhaps Max will have a better time with it.

I don't think all repukes are evil--just that their priorities are as screwed up as possible. But how can anyone relate to someone whose sole goal in life is to be the greediest mofo on the block? How can we relate to people who wish ill of 95% of the immigrants, both legal and illegal, in this country? How can we care about those who would step on our right to free speech? How can we even have respect for people who are so bitterly prejudiced as to wish every one who doesn't share their religious beliefs to die horribly or be converted? I can't think of these people most of the time without generalizing about the entire GOP party, but I do know that on individual levels, Repukes who are not extreme do have some qualities worth redeeming. As with any group, it's the extremists who take measures into their own hands and handicap the perception of the rest with their actions.

Having admitted that, I think Chambliss is nothing but a small increment of the entire problem with its beginnings in Washington, D.C., and a weasel to boot. Anyone with an ounce of integrity would not have run a smear campaign as he did, and certainly would have found another way to defeat Cleland on a more humane and objective basis. I can't wish "death" on him, but for some, perhaps Chambliss included, the only wake up call they will listen to is that which opens their eyes further.

Look at it this way....Joe Torre and Robert DeNiro get prostate cancer, I feel bad even though I don't know either of them personally. I just admire their work and their character (even though Torre works for the hated Yankees).

Saxby Chambliss gets cancer? Good...better him than some kid or someone I know and care about.
