Former congressman attacks D'Amato over dump-Cheney advice
ALBANY, N.Y. -- Former Republican Sen. Alfonse D'Amato is giving "aid and comfort" to the enemy by suggesting Vice President Dick Cheney be dumped from this year's GOP ticket, an outspoken former congressman said Thursday.

"It is difficult for me to understand why Senator D'Amato would issue his press release coming just days before the start of the Democratic convention," said former Staten Island Borough President Guy Molinari. "Surely, the Democrats will be using his statement to attack the credibility of the Bush-Cheney ticket."

snip......

"It is sad that a man of his background would make comments that are inflammatory and silly," said D'Amato when asked about Molinari's statement.

snip.......

"There's a lot of feeling in the party that Dick Cheney is damaged goods," said Roger Stone, who has worked on numerous GOP presidential campaigns. "On top of that is Cheney's, shall we say, perfunctory campaigning style when he clearly looks like a guy who's not enjoying himself."

4. Aid and comfort to the enemy: the Democrats, the loyal opposition are the
enemy in their eyes. This type of mindset must be smoten from the land if this land is to remain a republic, to endure as the land of the free and home of the brave, a government of, by, and for we the people.

8. Aid and Comfort to the Enemy
It seems that the GOP Enemies List is growing longer every day. I wonder what volume they are on now: 35 or 36? Their Friends List is written on a cocktail napkin, with room to spare.
Is it just me or do these 'professionals' act like those snot-nosed kids we went to grade school with? This administration's policies are fit more for the playground than the battleground.
It's no wonder we are closing in on 900 dead in Iraq.

Cheney's place is side by side with GW. They were made for each other. There's a special place waiting for them in Hell. Right next to the Hitler/Mussolini wing.

"Trust not the GOP, they eat their young."

It's amusing that they give no reason why cheney should stay on the campaign. They offer nothing positive about him at all.

The main thing the cheney supporters seem to say is that it would seem weak to take him off at this point.

article quote:
The advice from the former senator from New York was not warmly received by the Bush campaign.

"I think the fact our campaign is called `Bush-Cheney '04' says it all," said campaign spokesman Kevin Madden.
end quote

I guess they would have to reprint all their bush/cheney 04 signs and change the official name of the campaign too. That would be just too, too hard.

6. D'Amato was always good at knowing which way the wind blows.
For example he was nowhere to be seen when Bush I's campaign was crashing and burning. And at first he was constantly at Dole's side and then he was gone when it was apparent Dole was going to lose. The man is a swine and a thief - but his political instincts are spot on.

11. D'Amato is shilling for the top... The Bushes want him gone..
Edited on Thu Jul-08-04 06:25 PM by Tellurian
The Bushes want to dump Cheney and distance themselves as far away as possible from him..He is, like they said, damaged goods. Although, they've all shared in Cheney's illegal prosperity. He's on his own.

The plot thickens...Cheney and Lay, both big Bush buddies. The question is, will they sacrifice themselves to take the blame for anything Bush may have done to save him from indictment?

Here's the reason why:

12. Aid and comfort! Aid and comfort!
Every time I turn around, some Repug is howling about aid and comfort to the enemy when he hears something he doesn't like.

I can just see this guy at the dinner table:

"Timmy, if you don't eat your beets, YOU'RE GIVING AID AND COMFORT TO THE ENEMY!"

20. heard one interesting "theory"
bush* can't afford to dump potty-mouth because the far-right-wingers like him

far-right-wingers are upset with bush* because they see him as being toooooo "liberal" and only support bush* because of potty-mouth. If bush* flushes potty-mouth - he will lose the support of these wingers - something he desperately needs

the "theory" then goes on to speculate that potty-mouth will "resign" after nov. Selection and be replaced by McCain or Guiliani

--------

meanwhile on the flip-flop front --- back in 2000, didn't potty-mouth say he would only serve 1 term?
