Bush Camp Says Democrat Kerry Out of Mainstream (W Playing the Fetus Card)
Bush's re-election campaign sought to portray Democrat John Kerry as out of step with mainstream U.S. values on Thursday with a new television ad pointing out Kerry's Senate vote against a bill making it a crime to harm a pregnant woman's fetus.

Campaign officials said the ad, entitled "Priorities," was intended to counter Kerry's argument last week he represented rural American values in a bid to move to the center before the Democratic presidential nominating convention late this month.

The Bush campaign is trying to portray Kerry and his new running mate, Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina, as liberals to try to blunt an expected bounce in the polls for Kerry in the hoopla surrounding his choice of Edwards and the Democratic National Convention in Boston.

"John Kerry began this process as the duckling of the far left and hopes to emerge at his convention as the swan of the heartland. Only the truth about his record will prevent this phony make-over of the nation's most out-of-the-mainstream senator," said Bush campaign communications director Nicolle Devenish.

4. Update: KERRY RESPONDS IN KIND
"...Kerry's campaign countered on Thursday that that the Democrat's priority has been serving the public for more than 30 years as a naval officer in Vietnam, a county prosecutor, a lieutenant governor and a senator. And, the campaign questioned how Bush could argue about absenteeism when the president has spent at least 233 days at his Texas ranch since his inauguration in January 2001."

6. is this the ad that mentions Laci Peterson?
I heard it today when I was in another room. I heard a Bush ad on TV: "blah blah blah...Kerry very bad man... Laci Peterson...unborn babies law...." I thought maybe I heard it wrong, I thought no one can be that stupid, to mention a murder victim in a campaign ad, but then I remembered Willie Horton.
