Michigan GOP Gathers Names for Nader
Very, very interesting.

It's another example of state Republicans willing to try every unethical trick in the book to hold power," Democratic Executive Chairman Mark Brewer said Thursday. "This clearly shows that a vote for Ralph Nader is a vote to re-elect George Bush. The Republicans know that, and that's why they are desperate to have Nader on the Michigan ballot."

<snip

Greg McNeilly of the state Republican Party said the GOP is doing nothing wrong and hopes Nader will draw votes from the Democratic candidate. Republicans will make sure Nader has more than the 30,000 valid signatures he needs by July 15 to qualify for the Michigan ballot, McNeilly said.

I haven't met many Naderites here in MI....

1. Wasn't this Gingrich's plan back in 1996?
Part of GOPAC's plan was to split the Democrats by introducing a Buchanan-style figure to siphon votes from the left. Americans have such short memories, though, that by the time GOPAC gets around to it in 2000, people had forgotten who was behind it.

2. Yep. It's going to backfire.
No worries. It just makes them look asinine and worried.

3. I disagree, it won't backfire on the Repugs
If Nader the traitor gets on the ballot, he'll cost Kerry votes. Simple as that. Maybe Kerry has enough of a lead to overcome that and the Repug vote tampering, but I doubt it.

Nader: the Repug tool for clueless fools.

7. It all depends on how the media portrays it here in SE Michigan.
I don't see it working right now.

19. My Mom (Voted Bush in 2000) is voting for Nader.
She is a snowbird voting in Florida. Is it possible there are many more like her? I believe her main beef with Bush is the war. She wasn't keen of Iraq War I and I suspect she is even less keen on Iraq War II.

9. Yea, well, and maybe if
Kerry would take a stand on the war and subsequent occupation, Nader might just be cut off at the knees.
We are extremely weak here, all Nader has to do is go after the anti-war, anti-imperialist votes, and he WILL weaken the Dems....

12. Proof: Nader supports the war
He's in be with the Republicans and working for the defeat of Kerry/Edwards. The Naderites are lower that the 'Pubs because they add an additional level of fantasy.

14. The Green mtg I went to voted for Cobb
They were definitely against Nader as their candidate.

The R's are foolishly squandering money on this effort. MI is going Blue in November. This shows they know this to be true and they are desperate.

16. What a bastard
Nader is such a bastard. He's gladly taking support from the people he condemns. What a f*cking whore.

I wonder when he's going to hold another meeting with all the Newmanites.

17. Strong language- I'll just stick to the facts.
Whether he is those names you call him, or just misguided, I cant say.

Nader could do right by standing beside DEMS instead of campaigning against us.

20. *chuckle*
As much contempt as I have for Nader, I honestly don't think that he's going to hurt the Dems this year as much as he did in 2000, especially now that it's open knowledge that the GOP is using him and that he doesn't care. He's already done major damage to his own credibility, and I can't imagine that this time around he'll get many votes from people who would consider voting for Kerry even without Nader on the ballot.

22. Anything to win Michigan for You-know-who
There is a ballot initiative to make same-sex marriages - which are ALREADY ILLEGAL UNDER THE LAW IN MIGHIGAN - illegal under the state Constitution.

23. Damn
I didn't know about that. Those stupid initiatives draw the fundies out to vote.

MI should be blue, if we get the proper turnout, especially in and around Detroit.
