Democrats raise $7.5 million with star-studded concert

NEW YORK, (AFP) - Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry (news - web sites) raised a whopping 7.5 million US dollars in a star-studded concert that matched lively music with biting barbs at Republican President George W. Bush.

Kerry spokeswoman Allison Dobson said the gate, which surpassed the 6.8 million dollars raked in at a similar concert in Los Angeles two weeks ago, was "the single biggest take for a Democratic fundraiser."

More than a dozen stars showed up for the extravaganza at New York's historic Radio City Music Hall, ranging from hip-hop heavyweights Mary J. Blige and Wyclef Jean to veteran screen stars Paul Newman, Meryl Streep and Whoopi Goldberg.

Some 6,200 spectators paid from 250 to 25,000 dollars a ticket to hear a varied menu of music mixed with a uniformly venomous litany of criticism of the Republican Bush.

7. Finally Hollywood is doing something! Now they need to wear Kerry pins in

every interview. Hollywood has been quiet b/c they are all so worried about their careers. Now they realise that America is a lot more liberal than they gave us credit for.
About f'ing time.

Either way I can not stay mad at anyone that wants to help. Using their celebrity to draw attention to politics is the least they can do.

Funny how all of the people that I really respect, are already dems. However I hold a special place in my heart for any of the celebrities that stuck their head out for us.

The tide is rolling a lot faster our way than it used to.
