GOP donors funding Nader

Bush supporters give independent's bid a financial lift

Independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader -- still not on the ballot in a single state -- has received a recent windfall of contributions from deep-pocketed Republicans with a history of big contributions to the party, an analysis of federal records show.

Nearly one in 10 of Nader's major donors -- those writing checks of $1,000 or more -- have given in recent months to the Bush-Cheney campaign, the latest documents show. GOP fund-raisers also have "bundled" contributions -- gathering hefty donations for maximum effect to help Nader, who has criticized the practice in the past.

The donations from wealthy Republicans -- combined with increasingly vocal Democratic charges that they represent a stealth GOP effort to wound Democrat John Kerry -- prompted Nader's vice presidential running mate, Green Party member Peter Camejo, to suggest the consumer advocate reject the money that doesn't come from loyal Nader voters.

"If there has been a wave of these (donations), then that's something Ralph and I will have to talk about -- and about returning their money,'' he said Thursday in an interview with The Chronicle. "If you oppose the war, if you're against the Patriot Act, your money is welcome.

3. Once you get to the "more" part, Ralph wiggles all around and disagrees
Ralph justifies taking this money and justifies taking bundled money even whilst he criticized Dems for the same. Ralph is a Bushie apparatchik. Anyone who cannot see this is blind in one eye and can't see out of the other.

4. The HUGE story here is that Camejo Is Not Going To Stand For This

Camejo doesn't want to be part of this - smart guy - he is "suggesting" that the consumer advocate reject the money that doesn't come from loyal Nader voters.

I think Peter will cause Nader to reject the money - and if not, then Peter will bolt the ticket.

6. That isn't a huge story...the very next paragraph indicates
Nader won't return it and those of us who know Camejo since the 70's are clear he is an attention whore....even Ceasar Chavez gave him the boot.

10. As if any one doubts Nader is the GOP Spoiler
Nader is such a phony

As if he did not know he was any thing more then a spoiler going into the race. As if he actually represents any thing other then furthering the GOP agenda.

He publicly will attempt to represent GOOD causes to the American people but politically he is furthering an agenda so politically different from that which he advocates

I absolutely HATE the man for the phony, conniving piece of shit he is

Nader sold out

11. Giving Nader money is better than giving Bush money
Edited on Fri Jul-09-04 11:22 AM by Massacure
However, when someone gives their max limit to Bush, and then gives to Nader, I get a little worried.

12. Nader needs to take whatever money was legally given to him
...and run with it!

This talk about only accepting money from Nader 'loyalists' is ludicrous. Are you people on drugs?? The instincts on display here are truly jaw-dropping. Who is going to administer the ideological test to see if a donor is a 'true' supporter?

Since when have Democrats refused legal money from dubious and self-interested sources? They were particularly bad because they played the pre-reform mega corporate money game, and there is no finer example of self-interest and detaching yourself from your base than that. Us voters were supposed to keep believing that we just needed their money so we could put "our guy" got into office.

These Republican activists have such an over-weaning superiority complex that they feel Nader's message and "get out the vote" activities can't hurt them; that only the Democrats stand to lose. They and Nader are playing a dangerous game of money-chicken with each other. If Nader drops out before the vote, then the conservatives' money will have only been used against them.

13. If Nader is taking Republican money.
If he's being supported by Republicans. If Republicans are making calls for him, signing petitions for him, campaigning for him - mdoesn't that make Nader a Republican?

15. Patently false of course
Just like Reagan wasn't a Democrat for accepting support from longtime Democrats.

Did conservatives skewer Reagan because he used to be a Democrat and was receiving support from Democrats? "Oh no, Reagan is working for the Liberals and is invading our party!" No; they accepted the added supporters... and then sucked the blood out of them.

Who is being foolish?
