Arab Nations to Seek Barrier Destruction
UNITED NATIONS -- Arab nations will ask the U.N. General Assembly next week to urge the destruction of the barrier that Israel is building to seal off the West Bank following Friday's ruling by the International Court of Justice.

"This decision calls on Israel to destroy this wall and desist from further actions," said Ambassador Yahya Mahmassani, the Arab League's representative at the United Nations. "Israel is in violation of international law, of international legitimacy, and the General Assembly now will be called upon to look into this matter."

Mahmassani said Arab nations would send a letter either Friday or Monday to request a meeting of the General Assembly to implement the court's decision.

"We'll ask what the court had decided -- Israel has to destroy this wall," he said. "It is illegitimate. It's in violation of international law."

1. Arab Nations stand together on nothing.
They could easily bring Israel to its knees on this, but they will do nothing.

4. Good for the Arabs!!!
Gotta go on record against Israeli apartheid and show to the world and Muslims that the US continues to be hypocritical in the Middle East. Our support in the Muslim and Arab world is the lowest it has ever been and Kerry won't make it better.

7. How do you feel about Saudi Arabian apartheid
What about Syrian apartheid and Palestinian apartheid and Egyptian apartheid and Jordanian apartheid? Have you marched against any of those lately?

10. I don't like Saudi Arabia or any Islamic fundamentilist system
I don't like fundamentionalism of any sort. I'm a neo-Pagan/agnostic and a likely target of most Abrahamic religious fundamentilists.

First off, like my Irish ancestors, Palestinians are the victims of colonialism. The Palestinians were ruled by the Romans, the Turks, British, and finally Jewish settlers who now make up Israel. Palestinians don't practice apartheid; they don't have the capability to do so. Seggregation policies require a police and military force willing to be brutal. Israel has one of the top 10 militaries in the world. Palestine does not. By reading the news, it's Israeli planes and armed forces killing Palestinian civilians and bulldozing their homes even if they had nothing to do with the suicide bombers. And Israel kills 3-5 Palestinians for every Israeli killed by suicide bombers. That is not a justice. That is a war crime.

Palestinians, like all humans, are subject to prejudice, but the Palestinians didn't invite Jews from Europe to come to Palestine. Palestinians weren't given a voice because Britain made that decision.

Like the Native American Indians, Palestinians are the subject of genocide and apartheid by a foreign intruder -- Jews who immigrated from abroad and settle in Palestine looking to restore an ancient country on someone else's land. The Palestinian struggle is very similar to the one the Native Americans endured with white settlers in the 19th century and in fact, Native American activists have publicly made the connection. Palestinians and Native Americans, Kindred Spirits http://www.palestinechronicle.com/article.php?story=20020527174056418

Palestinians also include Christians and secularists, as well as Muslims, and many Palestinians are well educated. Because Islamic fundamentalists are a small minority, at least for now, Palestinian women have strong voice within their culture, and Palestinians, not Iraqis, would most likely to be an example of democracy in the Middle East because many Palestinians have been educated in Western schools and have experienced democracy. If Palestinians are given a just and fair settlement and a land where they can economicly grow without being strangled by Israel, Palestine would be the shining example of democracy in the Middle East.

5. Will someone please explain to me...
why the Palestinians want to be inside that barrier?

I'm having a hard time understanding what they want, except to kill Jews and take over everything the Israelis built from absolutely nothing but sand.

I feel bad for the Palestinians, though. No country wants them. I remember learning (back in the 60's) that the PLO were exiles from other countries.

Call me naive, but I've always thought that recognizing Yassar Arafat was a mistake. He was the first "terrorist" I remember being aware of.

I admit that I know very little about the on-the-ground conflict, so please try not to flame too quickly.

6. My understanding is they don't want the barrier at all
And if there is a barrier, they want it to be entirely within what is commonly accepted as Israeli territory, and not including any of their territory behind the wall.

On the other points you mention, you have learned a one dimensional analysis of the issue, and should read more widely. A good idea is to take a selection of books out of the library that present both points of view.

9. You need to read more on the subject
You said: "I'm having a hard time understanding what they want, except to kill Jews and take over everything the Israelis built from absolutely nothing but sand."

First of all, some of that land belongs to the Palestinians. And as for what they want: A Palestinian state - just like the Israelis have. Not a really ridiculous request. If the U.S really wants to protect peoples "freedom" it will concentrate efforts for peace in this region. This conflict is one of the main reasons there are terrorists that "hate us for our freedoms".

11. In some places, the Wall makes deep cuts
into peoples land- some farms and long held groves of trees- just being stole. You've seen it, right? It's huge.

Also, many work in Israel so without access, they can't support their families.

12. You're right
You do seem to know little about the on-the-ground conflict.

A few little things turned around (I'm in a lazy mood at the moment and about to head out):--

I'm having a hard time understanding what they want, except to kill Jews and take over everything the Israelis built from absolutely nothing but sand.

With such an approach, it doesn't surprise me that you're having a hard time understanding. For starters, the Zionist state wasn't built from "absolutely nothing but sand", but rather on the ruins of the people they invaded and destroyed. Dayan's quote on the matter is worth looking up (or I can produce it later).

Call me naive, but I've always thought that recognizing Yassar Arafat was a mistake. He was the first "terrorist" I remember being aware of.

Of note, at least half of Israel's PMs are far more notable in the "terrorist" catagory, and also predate his meager accomplishments.

I apologize for not living up to the last request you made. Such as this is why Palestinians may be slaughtered indescriminately with such little even awareness of the fact.

13. Yeah, and then there's the jews in the ghettos.
I mean, could they really have any legitimate purpose being outside the gate?

Of course not.

All they want to do is take the jobs from good Germans and poison the Aryan race.
