Bush Drop Cheney? Democrats hope not
Edited on Fri Jul-09-04 01:11 PM by JustCarbon
By Tom Curry
National affairs writer
MSNBC
Updated: 12:11 p.m. ET July 09, 2004WASHINGTON - When former New York Sen. Al D’Amato suggested this week the time had come for President Bush to replace Vice President Deck Cheney with either Secretary of State Colin Powell or Arizona Sen. John McCain as his running mate, was D’Amato voicing Republican hopes and Democratic fears? Or was he simply being provocative?

“If Cheney is dropped it would be the highest example of desperation in the history of presidential elections,” he said. “Without a doubt, it would happen in response to the fear Republicans have at Edwards being selected as Kerry’s VP."

6. would rednecks in the south vote for a black man? Me thinks not.
Bush would lose votes down here if he put Powell on the ticket.

12. Powell would do well down here. I don't agree with much of...
...his politics but he is definitely the "most sane" in that administration. He is straight talking and level headed enough for people here to at least listen to what he has to say.

2. it would be a mixed blessing
On one hand we could take the argument that Bush is making about Kerry be a flig-flopper because Bush would be committing the ultimate flip flop--not to mention being overtly political. On the other hand, a Colin Powell would be a formidable running mate--despite his rocky run as Sec of State. If Powell could even increase the GOP vote among AA's to 15-20% that would be devastating to us.

4. I think that even if he does not run again...If bush steals the election
again, he will just go to his bunker and still be running things.

9. Kerry needs to call for Cheney to go
Now. If Kerry calls for Cheney to drop off the ticket, then it's less likely to happen, as it would be seen as giving in to Kerry's demands.

15. He told Rummy to quit
Kerry called for Rumsfeld to resign; why not do the same for Cheney?

If they don't "catch" bin Laden during the Dem Convention then Dick will have a "heart attach" during the convention and have to drop out. You heard it hear first!!!

18. While I view Cheney as a detriment to the ticket...
I think it would be even worse if Bush dropped him. Mind you he'd probably cite a health reason for stepping down.

For whatever reason. (If I'm to believe the press) a big hunk of Americans seem to think this administration is doing good things on the economy and the war on terror. If they were to suddenly drop Cheney. That might actually cause more then a few of these bush supporters think twice about this administration.

20. Too Little Too Late, Bush stuck with Cheney. To replace is admission of
Failure... cannot admit to Masses, Must remain with Cheney for appearances sake.
