Canadian papers say they have proof of US-Saudi prisoner swap
MONTREAL (AFP) - Two Canadian newspapers said they had evidence that seven western prisoners were freed by Saudi Arabia last year in exchange for five Saudi terror suspects from the US camp at Guantanamo Bay.

The papers quoted a document originating from the Belgian embassy in Riyadh, framing it as the first written confirmation that a swap deal, first reported by The New York Times, did take place.

"In a few days, the US ambassador will return from leave," the Belgian ambassador to Riyadh wrote back to Brussels on July, 12, 2003," the document quoted by the National Post said.

"I will ask him what the American reactions are to the Saudis non-fulfilment of their part of the agreement," he wrote, adding in parentheses ... "releasing the British prisoners in return for the release of five Saudi prisoners that were locked up at the Guantanamo base in Cuba."

1. Bush says he won't be intimidated...
And yet terrorists seem to get exactly what they want from this guy. Best thing to ever happen to Al Quada was the Bush Administration.

I also think this abduction thing is the new cup de jour in Iraq. If the american public can tune out troops dying from ambushes and mortar shells. Will they be able to tune out abducted troops executed in front of a camera unless demands of the terrorists are met?

2. Given that the players in DC are nearly the same as they were in 1986...
I wouldn't be surprised if the US threw in a bunch of weaponry to sweeten the deal.

It certainly wouldn't be the first time they've done this sort of thing.
