In recent weeks, the Justice Department has focused a lot of attention on the Tampa Bay area. On June 24, Attorney General John Ashcroft announced the department was sending teams of law enforcement officers into 15 cities with high violent-crime rates, including Tampa. On June 30, Ashcroft stopped in for a meeting with local antiterrorism law enforcement officers.
