Fla. Democrat Likens Gov. Bush, Bin Laden

Saturday July 10, 2004 1:31 AM

MIAMI (AP) - A Democratic Florida congressman on Friday compared Gov. Jeb Bush's behavior after the contentious 2000 presidential recount to that of Osama bin Laden, saying the governor went into hiding.

Rep. Kendrick Meek, in a conference call designed to discuss President Bush's record on issues key to black voters, said there was a "lack of accountability from the state of Florida" during the disputed recount process.

"No one could find him when they had issues as it relates to so many African-American votes that were left on the floor in many supervisor of elections offices throughout the state," said Meek, the Florida chairman for the Kerry-Edwards presidential campaign.

"The governor was like bin Laden after the 2000 election."

Alia Faraj, a spokeswoman for Gov. Bush, replied: "We are not even going to dignify the comment with a response."

2. R U Suprised
This is an administration that only replies when it absolutely necessarily has to. They will pretend to be concerned with minutia from the regular people only as a final resort.

3. He's a terrific Congressman. I've seen him a lot on C-Span
and he does NOT hesitate to speak right out and hack off Republicans. It's a thing of beauty.

I hope he'll have a long and HEALTHY (no plane accidents, no assassinations) career in the House of Representative and whatever else he tries.

5. Did you see Meeks during the torture hearings
he had the kind of guts that I haven't seen in a congresscritter in a long time.

I hope he has a long, bright future ahead of him.

7. yes
unfortunately, Republicans in Miami are trying to ruin Carrie Meek and her legacy by claiming she made an endorsement for a local race after being paid off.

4. Can you say PNAC founder?
Jeb Bush has no time for such nonsense. His main concern is ruling the world. (See PNAC principles)
