Poll: Edwards tops Cheney
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/story/210847p-181602c.html

Most Americans think John Edwards would make a better President than Vice President Cheney, according to a new poll that appears to show Sen. John Kerry picked a winner for his running mate.

And what the Bush campaign has long considered Edwards' greatest vulnerability - his career as a big shot trial lawyer - is actually an asset, at least for now. snip

On the other hand, Cheney's previous career definitely hurts him in the eyes of voters.

Cheney's stint as the head of Halliburton, the huge energy company that has reaped billions in defense contracts from the war Cheney championed, makes 51% think less of him versus 16% who favor his Halliburton experience.

3. compare the number of people
that personally know attorneys (are them, are married to them, are the children of them, are friends with them) and the number of people that are "friends" to mega-corporate CEOs.

hmmmm....

I don't think that many regular folks are going to pick multi-millionaire crooked corporate CEOs as a better choice.

5. Let's not forget the Grisham factor
in all of the Grisham novels, and the thousands of popular copycat type books - the trial lawyer was cast as the underdog who took on the corporate corruption and won for the little guy. This is what most people know. They also get inudated by lawyer ads promising them money if they get hurt at work, hurt in a car - the new American lottery.

The Repugs kept harping on the "trial lawyer" because they can't stand them, but the average Joe probably thinks more on the side of the trial lawyer than the fat cat corporate head honch - most folks have a boss that they know is getting wealthy off the sweat of their behind, while they themselves are struggling to pay the bills.

The more the right yelled about trial lawyers, the more Edwards stock went up IMHO.

Superficially, you'd have to be pretty dumb to prefer Cheney to Edwards-what with health issues, conflicts of interest, and general appearance.

Which is why Bush will replace him with Giuliani or someone 'nicer'.
