By Daniel Burke
Religion News Service

snip............

In an effort to energize conservative Christians, groups like the Focus on the Family, the Alliance for Marriage and the Family Research Council are proceeding full thrust with radio and television programs, rallies, preaching tips and bulletin inserts.

The FRC and the Southern Baptists' Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, which also favors the amendment, have declared Sunday (July 11) to be "Protect Marriage Sunday'and are encouraging pastors to preach against same-sex marriage.

They are also urging churches and Christian television and radio stations to simulcast "The Battle for Marriage: Imminent Vote,' live from Memphis, Tenn. Perkins estimated that 1,500 to 2,000 radio and television stations and 500 to 700 churches will broadcast the program.

Monday has been deemed "Call Your Senators Day' by the American Family Association, which has listed each senator's phone number on its Web site.

3. It's stories like this . . .
that make me an agnostic. I want no part of an institution that condemns the right of two people to do what they want because of some text in one of the most flawed books ever created. I'm sorry if I offend any Christian Democrats here, but in my honest opinion there is no bigger crock in modern literature than the Bible.

6. Would you like to be judged as Americans purely by the actions
of the Bush* administration and the far RW? Surely you must realize how similarly unfair to judge all Christians by the minority of churches--fundamentalists RW extremist-- who no more represent the tenets of Christ than the Neocons do the philosophy of the founding fathers.

We can not allow these hypocrits to succeed in bastardizing Christianity anymore than we should allow Al Qaeda to become the face of Islam. Realize that there are many churches lined up to fight this effort, just as there were many who spoke out against the rush to an immoral war. Do you wish to so discount their efforts?

9. I'm right with you Osheaman! I agree, this 'book' has cost so many
lives, torture, witch hunts, Inquisitions, inhumane treatment, abuse, oppression, overt discrimination all in the hypocrite name of love. I will always say, if I have to share paradise with people that are christ lovers, then I would rather spend my paradise anywhere but. The are the meanist, unloving, idiotic, humans in the world. I don't care if I 'offend' christians, they are a bunch of hypnotic hypocrites who can't see they hurt people by forcing their bigoted narrow views onto others. All bibles should be burned, all religion stated as a trivial hobby and stop allowing the churchco's to evade taxes. It's a huge scam with a huge following of zombies. Spirituality hasn't evolved past the invention of the wheel. If they are to spread the word of love, they've accomplished the opposite, like a nasty virus, they spread nothing but hate.

7. God forbid they should turn their energies towards wiping out hate,
bigotry, poverty, sickness like they claim they do. Why follow in the footsteps of a carpenter from Galilee when you can foam at the mouth like Pat Robertson?

Guess it is easier to fight love, honor, and commitment than actually embrace and practice love, honor and commitment.

10. Because, we ALL know that gay marriage is THE most important thing now..
.. certainly, these churches find that Jesus' teachings are MUCH MORE about shunning people and hurting people who are different then they are.. rather than trying to feed and house the hungry children of our country, or working to stop the slaughter of innocents in phoney wars.. I'm certain that the churches have decided that gay marriage is MUCH more of a sin than.. say.. letting families starve, letting women be abused, letting children be abused, and destroying the earth. /sarcasm off.

What kind of CHRISTIANS are these people?? They are nothing more than bumper sticker zealots... caring ONLY about the most surface things.. If Jesus exists, he knows the truth, and he'll deal with these people at the appropriate time. Hope they bring sunscreen to the rapture.
