Kerry Promises Hispanics Immigration Plan

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - John Kerry promised Hispanics on Saturday that he would send Congress an immigration overhaul plan to make it easier for illegal immigrants to become citizens.

"Today, our immigration system is broken," the Democrats' presumptive presidential nominee told a Hispanic advocacy group, the League of United Latin American Citizens.

"In my first hundred days as president, I will send a comprehensive immigration reform bill to Congress," Kerry said, speaking by satellite relay to the LULAC national convention in San Antonio.

Kerry spoke shortly before leaving for Raleigh, N.C., hometown of his vice presidential running mate, John Edwards, for a joint rally to end a four-day, six-state campaign swing.
