Soliders taught to exercise injured brains |
|
http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040710/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/returning_from_war_brain"The centers report that traumatic brain injuries now account for 14 percent to 20 percent of casualties for those who survive combat. " This paragraph is stunning. Not only are we close to 900 soliders killed in Iraq but there must be a few thousand that have suffered "traumatic brain injuries".

2. We had a soldier suffer severe head injuries |
|
His scalp was literally ripped away from his skull...flapping against the back of his neck. Plates in his skull were pulled a part. It was an ammo dump explosion.
His speech has been affected. His memory is all but shot. He's still in "recovery"...this happened last May. He will never be the same again. He was 21 at the time.
My husband said loss of eyes was a biggie when he was in Iraq. Explosions of all types popping the eyes out...Concussion bombs especially.
Going deaf is another huge problem. War zones are LOUD...constantly. ALL of the soldiers in my husband's company lost hearing in both ears. There were times when I would snap at my husband "are you deaf?" when he was intentionally not hearing "take out the trash"...not anymore. He lost 10% hearing in both ears...compared to his pre-deployment hearing test.

3. I was reading happier posts elsewhere now this one has |
|
me LIVID again!!!!!!!!!
It crossed my mind yesterday; I wonder why (if possible) the soldiers don't just jump ship and run off(mutiny). Surely they've heard the news from stateside by now, surely they know about this damnable war and the lies it was based on. Surely they must be pissed off.
We just let perfectly healthy human beings get blown to smitherines every day and go on like it was just a movie from block busters. I can't stand it. I fear we are going to have one (psych.)messed up bunch of vets coming back when their term is over. It's outrageous. :grr:

4. I believe movies are more real to a vast number of people |
|
I see some of the results of the illegal invasion everyday. Soldiers with no legs, one leg, no arms, one arm..hand missing, blind..face put back together as best as possible.
I see my own husband go to physical therapy 5 times a week for an injury sustained just before coming home. It's so very minor compared to so many others but he will live with the pain for the rest of his life.
He was suffered several minor injuries over the course of his year in Iraq. Some I didn't even know about until his return. A vehicle wreck I knew about. Hospitalised for a "bug" that occurs mainly in 3rd world countries, burns on his hands and arms, and lastly, his shoulder. Tendon and ligament damage that has affected the use of his arm...as well as his loss of hearing.
I live in constant outrage.
And the soldiers are angry, many of them. They know. Some always knew Iraq was a lie.

5. This just gave me a chill |
|
down my spine, because the numbers are just so much worse than first thought.
We have around 800+ dead Americans. Over a 1000 "coalition" troops...
And an untold number of dead Iraqis, numbering in the tens of thousands...and these numbers will rise because of the poor pace of rebuilding the infrastructure, disease, and the terrorism purpotrated by the US and the terrorist groups that have taken hold...
Then there are thousands more injured -- missing limbs, brain damage.
What a mess. What a Godamned mess.

6. the death count is not correct |
|
it;s well over 1000 now because they don't count them all and keep fudging the numbers
same with the injury count
even the troops coming home uninjured won't escape as they could be contaminated with DU which they can pass on to future offspring.
what all the troops will leave in Iraq is their Peace of Mind. It's gone forever.
