Peek at polygamists' haven (FLDS's Jeffs moves to Texas)
http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/news/articles/0711polygamy11.html

ELDORADO, Texas - Folks around here couldn't be more dumbfounded if a flying saucer buzzed the county courthouse and spooked all the sheep this side of Abilene.

But polygamists?

Being invaded by a colony of secretive Arizona and Utah men with two, three or more wives apiece wearing ankle-length, gingham pioneer dresses while working the fields under a scorching western Texas sun?

<snip>

Since then, the FLDS has gone through tumultuous times. Jeffs, 48, rarely is seen in public and never grants interviews, but his pronouncements on church matters often are leaked to the public.

<snip>

Celestial marriages go to the core of much public controversy about the FLDS. According to church teachings, men must have at least three wives to reach the celestial kingdom. Women are property and only get to heaven if their husbands take them.

1. If polygamy existed in the United States, it would end the sanctity
of marriage.

Oh never mind.

2. heh...Im waiting for polyandry to make a comeback
10 husbands, one wife.
Makes more sense, in a way.
Nonetheless, its their life, none of my business if they are all consenting adults.

4. See my post below
It's not consenting adults. They marry at age twelve-fourteen, forced usually, and marry blood relatives. What's worse is that these people are brainwashed from a young age, and raely exposed to the outside world (they're less concerned with the outside's opinion than the possibility of escape).

8. That's different, If children are being coerced, then the men
who are doing it should be behind bars. For life.

5. Polyandry and the question of who's in charge
Just be sure it's one woman with ten husbands. . . . . not ten husbands sharing one wife.

7. Common sense.
The wife can keep going and going like the energizer bunny. The men poop out after one or two rounds. Its not a bad idea..just keep them busy while she supervises their work.

3. The FLDS has failed to consider the Southern Babtists:
The Southern Babtists hate a lot of things, but they hate competition above all. As someone who grew up in Pissant, Texas, all I can say is that the idea of a bunch of polygamists moving into the neighborhood is about the funniest damn thing I've ever heard.

On a more serious note: I read an article a few years ago written by an escapee of these whackos a few years ago. It featured the story of a thirteen year old girl who didn't want to marry her uncle/brother. After being raped, she was stripped naked and chained to a post in public, where she was whipped and left to hang for a few days in the sun before consenting to a lifetime of sexual slavery.

But that's okay, though, because Jesus told them to do it.

6. What about concubines? Are they illegal?
Why don't these polygamists ever advocate for good ol' fashioned concubines? Screw that marriage crap, concubines are where it's at.
