Gang Attacks Mother on French Train

PARIS - A gang of young men attacked a woman riding a suburban train with her infant, cutting her hair and drawing swastikas on her stomach. Other passengers watched but did nothing, police reported.

Police said the gang of six set upon the 23-year-old woman on a suburban train north of Paris and grabbed her backpack where they found identity papers that showed an address in the capital's well-to-do 16th district. "There are only Jews in the 16th," one of the group of attackers said.

The young woman, who was not identified, was not Jewish and no longer lived in the district, police said.

Anti-Semitic acts have been on the rise in France over the past few years, but recently have spiked, with 135 registered in the first half of this year — more than the total reports last year. The rise in anti-Semitic acts has been accompanied by racist acts against Muslims.

3. They should not allow obvious gang members on the train.

After this, they will probably have to put guards on the trains. Shameful that nobody helped her. Also, don't they have cell phones over there? If this is becoming so prevalant, the trains should also be equipped with panic buttons that make a very loud noise so that attention is drawn to that train. Some kind of panic button should be on every train. I thought this was standard on most trains.

Dozens of people sit by... such a cowardice, i don't believe it!!!
Unfortunately this is not new. I remember some years ago, a rape took place in the RER in fornt of commuters and no one moved.
How hard is it to get up and pull the emergency thingy?
God knows i am not for a strong repressive system but i would like to see all thoses sheeps be prosecuted.

It was early Friday morning on a train north of the city. It might not have been crowded at all. The article doesn't say.

I've seen a guy shot up and crumble to the sidewalk in busy rush-hour downtown DC, a couple blocks over from the White House. Hundreds of people were on the streets, heading home, stopping into shops, waiting for lights. Many watched the shooting and the shooter escaping in a delivery van. People looked, but nobody did anything, at least not for a while. Sometimes people are just stunned at things like this and they don't know what to do but watch, and see what happens.
