Pentagon Papers Whistleblower Calls For National Security Leaks
Now Ellsberg is launching ``The Truth-Telling Project, a call to patriotic whistleblowing,'' encouraging Pentagon, White House and other national security insiders to reveal secrets that involve alleged government cover-ups and lies.

2. Memo to bu$h: Get someone to tell you who Ellsberg is.
Have them use short words, of preferably no more than three syllables. Then, be afraid.

Be very afraid.

3. As a 60-year-old American,
I find it incredible that we are dependent upon the same individual who stepped forward back then to make this plea today. Where are you heroes on the inside -- are you there???

4. There's a difference now
Back then the Strauss followers hid from folks like Ellsberg and Cronkite. Now they sign their paychecks.

5. I have proffered on this board many times if only a few good men would
step forward and come to the aid of their country by exposing what is/has been going on behind the scenes of this Administration from day-one, including some of those energy officials who attended the secret energy meetings protected by the Supremes, just maybe this Republic can be saved from itself for obviously neither the Congress nor the Supreme Court can be counted on to uphold their duties to our country, the Constitution, and we the people.

11. I was wrong saying if but a few good men would step forward: many, many
good men need to step forward since the "libral media" fail to put any of these stories in perspective to the whole, connect each dot to any of the other dots, fail to present the full mosaic that has unfolded behind closed doors.

9. We are here! Are you there to support us when we speak out?
Have you read Jesselyn Radack's story? Have you donated to her legal defense fund? Have you at least written her an e-mail thanking her for her personal sacrifice in the name of justice?

I don't mean to be rude, but put your money where your mouth is. This courageous woman did the right thing and is now being persecuted for it. When other government insiders hear her story, and realize that whistleblowing is a thankless exercise in self-destruction, they are not especially inspired to speak out.

You can help change that perception by helping the Jesselyn Radacks of the world get back on their feet. Open your wallet and BE GENEROUS. Let government insiders know that if they speak out and are persecuted for it, you will be there to support them -- ALL THE WAY.

Ellsburg has the luxury of being able to speak out because his personal trauma lies in the distant past.

And, no, I am not Jesselyn Radack. Nor am I a friend of hers. I HAVE sent her an e-mail of support and I'm keeping my eyes open for possible job opportunities for her. I hope you do the same.

10. Thanks Ewan I B,
Yes, I had read about this case -- glad to have it posted here on DU. It has gotten remarkably little coverage.

As for donations, I put what limited amounts I can in the places where I think it will do the most good, as I'm sure you do too.

12. I apologize for my emotional outburst.
Of course, you are absolutely correct about placing donations where you think they will do the most good.

I do want to emphasize, however, the importance of not leaving "any man/woman behind on the field". Whistleblowing is hairy business. I happen to know a good many government whistleblowers in the DC area. Too often they stick their necks out in an act of bravery that benefits the rest of us and -- when the government agency sends their heads rolling -- no one is there to help them pick up the pieces. As long as this remains the case, the Republicans will continue to use these hapless souls to send a message to the rest of the federal workforce: open your mouth, and you will lose your job, your health and maybe even your family.

The only way to counter that negative message is for people like us to be there to catch them when they fall in battle.

I'm sure you know that the GOP does this for THEIR own people, Elliott Abrams being a recent example. What you may not know is that the GOP ACTUALLY COUNTS ON THE FACT THAT WE DO NOT BACK UP OUR OWN PEOPLE. I have overheard numerous conversations to this effect.

We need to change this. In my personal opinion, we must not only rescue/support those who are struck down by the enemy (e.g., Jesselyn Radack), but we must also strike back at the government bureaucrats who retaliated against the whistleblower. When they try to send a negative message to potential whistleblowers, we must counter with our own message: if you retaliate against a whistleblower trying to do the right thing, we will retaliate against you.

Let me make absolutely clear that I am in no way advocating illegal action. There are many legal avenues open to us through which we may send a message to those who woud attempt to silence government whistleblowers.

I will try to write more about this on other threads in the future. It is of critical importance if this battle is to be won.

Thanks.
