Palestinians to delay vote(regarding the Wall..at Security Council)

Palestinians to delay vote
From correspondents in Ramallah, West Bank
12jul04

THE Palestinians are to hold off pushing for a UN Security Council resolution against Israel's West Bank barrier until after November's US presidential elections, ministers said today.

"We decided that it was not wise now to go to the Security Council because we don't want to incite the Americans, especially during the election campaign and its better to wait until after the elections," one minister said after a meeting chaired by Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.
"In the meantime we will take the issue to the (UN) General Assembly," he told AFP on condition of anonymity.

Agriculture minister Ibrahim Abu Annaja said a legal committee would be formed to discuss the Palestinians' next move in the wake of Friday's non-binding world court ruling that the barrier is illegal.

"In principle we will first go to the General Assembly. There is no rush to go to the Security Council because we don't need to encourage and invite vetoes against the ruling."
