Olympics organisers target rival logos
http://www.guardian.co.uk/international/story/0,3604,1258986,00.html

Spectators attending the Athens Olympics could be forcibly removed from stadiums if they wear clothing bearing "obvious logos of competitive companies to sponsors," according to rules released by games organisers.

The restriction will extend to hats, T-shirts, bags and other "commercial items".

But marketing sources were at pains yesterday to dispel fears that people would be ejected for wearing clothes which inadvertently advertise competitor companies. The prohibition was aimed at preventing "a commercial coup d'etat" inside stadiums, they insisted.

Sony, it ain't gonna suck itself.

1. Some folks have this romantic idea about the Olympics
This more than anything proves that it is a big corporate suck-up.

The Olympics suck on so many levels, specifically I hate the Olympics on two levels. 1. Democracies and monarchies are considered equal. and 2. The Whole thing is bought and paid for by corporate interests.

5. I Predict a Major Ratings Bomb
The silliest thing the IOC ever did was agreeing to divide up the years.

I haven't enjoyed an Olympics telecast since the Austria Winter games. And that was what? 1976?

2. I want to say another thing
I love PGA golf. There is nothing that is more of a corporate stooge series of events than the PGA. HOWEVER, they make no bones about it. I hate being co-opted and make feelings about peace made part of a whole marketing scheme.

BTW, did I mention I dislike the Olympics?

3. All sports are coporate suck ups.
Unfortunately.

In a perfect world, sports would be sports, and not coporate suck ups. But this isn't a perfect world, and so Walgreens is open 24 hours a day to make your life easier. :P

4. Agreed, but don't be a phony about it
I guess it is the Holden Caufield in me. Or the Boot of the Beast of me.
