Insurgents attack Abu Ghraib Detention Facility
Edited on Mon Jul-12-04 08:07 AM by MaineDem
Consider the source - the "Multinational Forces".

ABU GHRAIB, Iraq - Anti-Iraqi insurgents launched a mortar attack Sunday night on the Baghdad Central Corrections Facility at Abu Ghraib, where Multi-National Forces hold over 2,300 Iraqis for participating in or directly supporting activities threatening the security of Iraqi and Multi-National Forces. One injury resulted from the attack.

Remember the April attack when 22 "detainees" but no guards were killed? That still bugs me. Who did the attacking and why?

1. Indeed.
Doesn't make sense. Break them out, yes. Destroy prisoners and prison, no. Who benefits?

15. One reason might be ...
I remember reading an article somewhere that said that the women prisoners in Abu Ghraib felt so shamed by being paraded naked in front of MPs, being raped, and the other abuse they're subjected to that they wanted to die. Somehow they got that word out and the insurgents tried to relieve the women's misery by mortaring them.

16. Yes, there were reports that mentioned a note or sign near the prison
There were accounts that some of the women in the prison smuggled a note out that asked that Iraqis attack the prison, and hopefully kill them. The note supposedly said that they were too ashamed to continue living after being raped by the US guards in the prison.

2. Good question. Who is really doing any of the bombings inside Iraq
We now know that we can't believe anything our 'intelligence' tells us. So really don't know who we are fighting or who is killing Iraqi and us.

4. Welcome to DU!
And it bugs me, too, when everyone is called an "insurgent".

Hell, what would happen here if the US had been invaded? There'd be many many "insurgents" fighting for their country.

5. Some of these 'mortar' attacks
Edited on Mon Jul-12-04 08:06 AM by DoYouEverWonder
are just an excuse to cover up the beating and killing of the inmates.

The MP's go a little too far, just blame it on another mortar attack.

13. Many of the MPs there want to come home and dont want to be
there..dont paint them all with a broad brush..some of them hate Bush, hated him and his stinking war from the beginning..many of them want to come home, and are just kids who didnt know what to do when the stinking military sent them there..they were afraid of going to jail..
Many of them will have horror stories to tell the press soon enough
some of them are good kids

6. Unbiased reporting, of course...
where Multi-National Forces hold over 2,300 Iraqis for participating in or directly supporting activities threatening the security of Iraqi and Multi-National Forces. One injury resulted from the attack.

Weren't most of these detainees just rounded up in night-time raids? Haven't we already learned that it's a tiny percentage of these people who are actual 'evildoers?' Why do they spend more time defending the detention of these people than they do protecting them from abusive soldiers? How are they going to explain this when they let the next batch go?

Edited on Mon Jul-12-04 08:10 AM by w13rd0
...how in the hell are IRAQI INSURGENTS "ANTI-IRAQI"?

Is this the new RW talking point for the news? Will we soon have to hear from RW loons that Democrats are "Anti-Democracy Democrats" or "Anti-American Americans"? Friggin idiots.

ON EDIT: is there any point at which this madness starts making sense? Why are we there? And why do they hate us?

Edited on Mon Jul-12-04 11:10 AM by Mari333
I know one thing for sure..after the scandal broke Michael wrote me and told me our tax dollars paid right away for air conditioning and all kinds of new things so Rummy could cover his skinny ass
No, the prison isnt torn down, that was Bush deciding to put that in his lame ass speech and that screwed up the families of the soldiers who were sending packages to them because we thought the unit was moving out..
Its not being rebuilt, but you can bet your ass the contracts will go to Cheney and his friends pockets, whatever is done.
