United for Peace and Justice members meet at group's new HQ on W. 38th St. in city.

The group's name is United for Peace and Justice, but it's fighting a war - against Mayor Bloomberg.
The organization's battle to hold a massive anti-war march leading to a rally in Central Park on Aug. 29 has made it the poster child for protesters at the upcoming Republican National Convention.

The planned demonstration would be the largest held in the city during the GOP convention.

The anti-war group wants to hold the rally on the Great Lawn, but Bloomberg has said a 250,000-person event would ruin the lawn. The city also has rejected the group's proposal to hold the rally in Central Park's North Meadow.

In late June, Bloomberg accused the group of deliberately holding up permits for all other protest groups by wrangling over its rally site.

"There is one group that is keeping everybody else from getting permits - the name of that group is United for Peace and Justice," Bloomberg blasted.
