US scholars 'can't defend' Bush policy
By Kate Kelland

London - American President George Bush's "arrogant" foreign policy is damaging his country's standing in the world and threatening the safety of Americans living abroad, a group of high-level United States scholars said on Monday.

About 200 American students - 30 of them winners of the prestigious Rhodes scholarship previously held by former US president Bill Clinton - wrote an open letter warning that Bush's actions have been "divisive and polarising".

"We find it increasingly difficult to defend America against accusations that our country has misused its power," the letter said.

3. Listen to the experts
Call me an elitist, but I am of the opinion that we should look to the experts and intellectuals for leadership on matters of public policy. And the experts have made it clear that Bush is bad for America.

16. Listen to experts?
Bush won't listen to doctors about medicine. He won't listen to biologists about biology. He won't listen to the Army's generals about war planning. He won't listen to economists about the economy.

So, why should he listen to a bunch of "scholars" about anything? He's got GOD on his side. You're either with him, or with the terra-rists.

9. Sorry, Seafan. I disagree.
Bu$h has one gear, true. But it is "reverse." Bu$h is driving this country down a mountain back-road at 80 mph, in reverse, with one drunken eye in the rear-view mirror and the other on the loot.

15. Good analogy! Arrogance + Ignorance= Disaster
We are barreling toward it, and, as yet, no one has wrested him away from the wheel.

None of them will go quietly. For decades, they have clawed and scraped and pillaged and stolen and gutted everything and everyone in their path to seize power. If we do not take them out of power, it will be catastrophic.

11. This is too funny
"Can't defend" ? what I want to know is why one would even bother to try in the first place. I could not defend Charles Manson either. ( though not for the same reasons )

12. I noticed the use of that term, too.
What ever happened to the good old days when things didn't have to be defended?

Like, oh, when we went to war because we were actually attacked. No explanation needed.

Funny how people keep trying to JUSTIFY these things after the fact.

17. All people begin life good and moral. That's why colleges are 'liberal'.
Edited on Mon Jul-12-04 11:38 PM by dArKeR
It's after college that people begin to see the want for more money, more expensive cars, more luxury trips... then they realize they can be promoted easier and get higher salaries if they lie, cheat, steal, commit fraud, pretend to be Fundimentalist Christians... become a republican. They same cycles goes for Media Whores. They see they can make more money lying for the Corporate Whores and GOP Crime Family. This is honestly how Limbaugh, Bennett... and the rest evolved.
