UFCW Local 791 union spokesman Peter Derouen and store clerks confirmed that numerous full-time workers were called into management offices on Monday and told that their jobs were being eliminated.
The original number of 224-242 workers to be laid off will reach as many as 275 before the layoffs are over, Shaw’s insiders said.
During recent meetings that store managers held with full-time workers, future options with Shaw’s were discussed and workers were presented employee packages to assist them during the transition process.
