Kerry picks fellow veterans for introduction(Carter/Clinton/Gore to speak)
Edited on Tue Jul-13-04 01:04 PM by onehandle
(All three living Democratic Presidents)

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry has tapped fellow Vietnam veteran and former U.S. Sen. Max Cleland of Georgia to introduce him during the crowning July 29 session of the Democratic National Convention, the campaign announced Tuesday.

Two former presidents, Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter, and former Vice President Al Gore are scheduled to address the convention on July 26, its opening night.

Cleland's introduction will highlight the theme of the convention -- "Stronger at Home, Respected in the World." Kerry's swift boat crewmates from his time in Vietnam and his children also will appear on Thursday.

1. Great theme!
I love that Max Cleland is doing the intro of Kerry.

More people need to learn about what the GOP did to him the 2002 election.

2. Well, picking Gore to speak is a major thing for me. At least it's a
recognition that there's another wing of the Democratic Party. Now if he would invite Kucinich I would be in heaven. Kucinich...the forgotten candidate who get's dumped while they harp on about Nader.

3. You are absolutely right
The forgotten patriot: Dennis Kucinich. He has a heart as big as Ohio, and strength of beliefs that are rare to see in a politician. He should speak. He is a very moving speaker.

5. I agree
Gore deserves a good time slot too! His win in 2000 earned him a place at the podium and it will be a reminder to the base that we were robbed! Not to mention that Gore can fire up a crowd.
Maybe he'll throw a liplock on Theresa or Elizabeth! Oh just to hear the shock! shock! by the Gore psychoanalysts that dominate the press...("He's gone mad!!")
:o

4. Quite a line-up!
I look forward to watching it! Especially since Gore is let loose from the golden straight-jacket of candidacy and he rocks at kicking ass and taking names these days.

To President Gore! :toast:

6. Where was Hillary's name?
Edited on Tue Jul-13-04 08:48 PM by muddleofpudd
Why is the Democrats' biggest star in the Senate not given a prime speaking slot?

(on edit) And second the sentiment re: DK! A true lib in the Wellstone mold and not given a podium.

Bad, sport, real bad.

Carter and Gore will be representing the Democratic wing while Clinton shores up the corporate whore wing.
