Kerry show irks 9/11 families
http://news.bostonherald.com/election2004/view.bg?articleid=35436&format=text

Sen. John F. Kerry upset some families of 9/11 victims yesterday when he arrived - late - to a private memorial dedication in a sirened motorcade and glad-handed as though he were on the campaign trail.

The senator, in Boston for the day, hopped in his motorcade at the Four Seasons, drove around the Boston Public Garden and arrived at the memorial with his sizable entourage in tow.

Press were kept away but several family members, speaking privately, said they were miffed that Kerry arrived after most other pols - such as Sen. Edward M. Kennedy , Rep. Martin T. Meehan , and Attorney General Tom Reilly - had all left.

And Kerry stayed much longer than the other leaders, shaking hands, posing for photos before he left with just as much commotion.

``I bet he couldn't even name anybody on that wall,'' said the wife of one 9/11 victim, who spoke on the condition her name not be used.

I heard the Boston Herald is an enemy of Kerry's. What's the deal with this paper? Does a RWinger own them or what?

1. Who do they think they are?
Do they think they own the wall. The wall is for all the victims. Geez.

25. Pat Purcell...
I have no doubt we'd find out that the paper is very much STILL controlled by Murdoch is some fashion.. he has this thing about "selling" papers and tv stations to friends and family, and keeping control. That article was total bullshit.. I'm still fuming over the term "gladhanding"! What kind of objectivity would THAT be??

And don't you know that scumbag Rush, and the usual suspects from Faux will be all over this like Rush at an Oxycontin Buffet. They'll drag out the usual 9/11 families that support Bush, and it will be just one more reason to hate that "flip flopper" Kerry.

5. I don't think it's Murdoch, but it's very, very RW.
Good for lining birdcages, and not much else.

The Herald has gone from simply being skewed conservatively to being way-out on the RW fringe. There used to be a difference between the NY Post and Boston Herald.

Not anymore.

instead of Kerry.

I hope it's just shitty Journalism by the Boston Herald.

11. Murdoch Rag drags out a few people to give negative comments...
...Big Deal....If there were 200 people there and 10 % of them are Republicans who hate Kerry anyway, what does their opinion matter compared to the other 180 people who might have seen Kerry's Photo ops as a wonderful and gesture for a busy person to spend "much longer than other leaders, shaking hands, posing for photos" as a gesture of caring and genuine interest in the people waiting to meet him....

So he came in asirened motorcade...would the same whining Repukes had cared if Bu$h showed up in the same way? Anybody tried to work their way through Boston gridlock? Maybe that's why he was late in the first place and needed the sirens?

Don't you love it when they also "quote" someone who refuses to give her name?

12. All I have to say about this "controversy"
is this:
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/03/05/politics/main604418.shtml

President Bush's first campaign ads, released on Thursday, with images of firefighters at Ground Zero, began what will be an ongoing argument over the politics of Sept. 11, 2001.

The ads provoked immediate backlash. The International Firefighters Association (which has endorsed Kerry) unanimously passed a resolution denouncing them.

"We are disgusted that for political purposes the president would show a firefighter draped in a flag, when we have a president that has cut funding for first responders," said Harold A. Schaitberger, general president of the firefighters union.

Some victim's families added to the fray by appearing on television and in newspaper stories, calling the ads unseemly, in poor taste."

Then of course there's the GOP convention in NYC scheduled for much later than usual, the week before the third anniversary of 9/11.

The right-wing hypocrisy is stunning, as usual.

14. The FIX for this is a no-brainer..
He needs to meet privately with those families and tell them in no uncertain terms that when he is president, one of the first things he will do is to RE-OPEN the commission to find out what REALLY HAPPENED...and to let THEM serve on the commission and ask the questions they need answers to...

THAT would make the repubes shake in their little booties..

27. Considering that "article" said the press was held at bay..
.. I wonder how the writer heard that comment. It was a pretty bitchy, mean statement to make.. as IF Kerry has no concern about the victims and their families... cuz we ALL know that Bush cares so deeply that he had to invade Iraq to avenge those 9/11 deaths. This article is crap.

23. "gladhanded"???? WTF kind of journalism would THAT be??
"gladhanded"??? Unless that's a fucking quote, whomever wrote that stupid-ass article is NOT a journalist, they're an editorialist.... And quoting an unnamed family member... hmmmm.... And.. if the press was kept at bay, how exactly did those family members express their unahappiness??

So.. this is another Murdoch house organ, eh?
