Guard Shoots Del. Inmate From Ceiling Hideaway After He Threatens to Stab Hostage
DOVER, Del. (AP) - An officer hiding in a prison ceiling fatally shot a serial rapist as the inmate sexually assaulted a woman counselor he was holding hostage and threatened to stab her, officials said Tuesday.
Inmate Scott Miller, who had a homemade knife, spotted the officer and shouted that he would stab his hostage, said Department of Correction Commissioner Stan Taylor.

The officer fired one shot from a handgun "with no apparent effect" and fired again, Taylor said. Unsure if Miller had been hit, the officer and a colleague tumbled down into the room.

Taylor said the officers handcuffed Miller as he lay on the ground and then determined he was dead
