Biggest Buddha to be built in India

KUSHINAGAR, India, July 13 (UPI) -- Officials of a state in India are planning to build the world's largest Buddha statue, the BBC reports.

The statue, a seated incarnation of Buddha, will be about 492 feet tall -- triple the height of the Statue of Liberty. It will hold a 17-story prayer temple.

Kushinagar, the chosen site, is a town in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh and the site of Buddha's death 25 centuries ago. The government of Uttar Pradesh and a Japanese religious group are funding the project, the BBC said.

1. I'm still mad at the Taliban about the Bamiyan Buddhas
Maybe if we had stopped them from blowing THOSE up in the summer of 2001.....eh, I guess Buddha just would have laughed at the whole thing.

2. first thing that crossed my mind, from your thread
info, was ' um, someone will now feel it necessary to build even bigger....'

then i read the link:
The Kushinagar Buddha would be the largest statue in the
world. However, an even bigger statue, 555 feet tall, is planned
for Houston, Texas. The Houston statue, The Spirit of Houston,
a statue of a woman, would symbolize friendship.

and it goes on and on i suppose.

6. I agree. The single most important lesson Siddhartha taught was
that all our pain is caused by our egos.Any ostentatious displays that cater to our vanity can only increase our suffering.

4. Chief Justice Roy Moore
The next time he insists on the Ten Commandments statue at a court house, maybe they should also build a 40 foot Buddha.
