Bush AWOL: More than one set of microfilms exist
White House Briefing
by Dan Froomkin

National Guard Correction

<snip>

The microfilm that the Pentagon reported destroyed was housed at the Defense Finance and Accounting Service in Denver and consisted only of a few months of payroll records -- albeit some of them from during the hotly contested third quarter of 1972.

The Associated Press lawsuit that Tomlin filed is for the microfilm of Bush's entire personnel file from the Texas Air National Guard. Those records are in Austin.

The Denver microfilm was the subject of a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request -- and the Austin lawsuit was filed in response to the denial of a FOIA request.

<snip>

"There have been numerous FOIAs," Tomlin told me yesterday. "The lawsuit in particular is focused on microfilm that we believe to be in the possession of the State of Texas. . . . Not just payroll records, but the entire personnel file."

12. He's got nothing to hide
He just doesn't want anyone seeing his military records, his governor's papers, the Reagan papers, the secret energy meeting papers, and God knows what else.

18. He's Also Hiding His College Grades. I wonder if his high school
grades are obtainable.. he seems to be proud of his "C" average which makes me wonder if it was actually worse than that.

Quite a contradiction to William "Rhodes Scholar" Clinton..

21. Anyone who's proud of a C average
was undoubtedly expecting to get worse than that.

3. Funny thing about those Texas records...
I'll bet that they were, or will, be accidentally destroyed, too. It's just a coincidence. Really.

6. What's there to know?
Bush was defending Texas and Alabama from a sneak air attack by the VietCong. It's hard work making sure our skies are safe from communist infiltration. Whatever time off he might have taken to go whoring in Tijuana was, I'm sure, richly deserved considering the dedicated service he provided to protecting our freedoms.

8. That is a flat-out LIE!

Nueva Laredo or Matamoros are much closer for whoring in Mexico from Texas than Tijuana is.

Glad we've got DU'ers with geographical knowledge.

Another option: Piedras Negras, across the line from Eagle Pass, where they shot the excellent "Lone Star". Who can forget the sheriff joking about a new welcome sign for the town--"Gateway to Cheap Pussy"?

9. I was thinking about how bogus this is the other day...
I was a librarian for many years. We would often order copies of microfilm from the state library for people who were doing research. Of course they could only use the materials in the library, and we had to return them within a reasonable amount of time.

I remember one PhD student who was studying some early state records. We ordered a set of microfilm for him that included some early financial records of Abraham Lincoln's.

They guy showed them to me and said, "Look, Honest Abe paid his bills."

It was very interesting, and I am glad he enthusiastic about his work and willing to share his research with me. I am glad I had a few minutes to look at what he was doing, too.

But does anyone think that the state library sent us the ONLY copies of Abe's finances? Does anyone think that the ONLY place that has copies of those records is the Illinois State Library?? GIMME A FUCKIN BREAK.

I know other copies of shrubs military records have to be somewhere. They have military records going back to the Civil War!

17. Does Rosemary Woods work in Military Records? That could explain the
the missing microfilms. Rosemary can be very clumsy when it comes to incriminating evidence against Republican presidents. Remember the demo she did to explain how she "accidently" created the infamous 18-minute gap?

23. AH HA!!! I REMEBER all this know!
Does anyone else remember the very unprecedented move Bush Jr. made before he left the governor's office in Texas??? Do you remember he sealed his records and sent them immediately to.. was it his Daddy's library? He sent everything to a place where they could not be accessed. I have a feeling this is what he had to hide. Why would his payroll info be in Austin? I thought he served in Alabama?

24. Hmmm.
This is another HUGE example of rightwing hypocrisy. Compare the "outrage" over the burying of these records to the Democratic Hollywood fundraiser for Kerry.

25. "another HUGE example of rightwing hypocrisy'\"
There has been so much right wing hypocrisy that it isn't even commented on anymore. Take the Kerry flip flop thing. If the media wanted to they could talk about Bush flip flops and point out that when the right talks about Kerry they leave out most of the story. Bush has changed hi s mind on so many things it would be easy to kill the Kerry flip flop sing song but no one wants to point out the rightwing hypocrisy.

... to try to distract attention from the mysterious gaps in Bush's service records.
