WP: Clinton Double-Booked on Tour (Big Dog to actively campaign)
Clinton Double-Booked on Tour

By Al Kamen
Wednesday, July 14, 2004; Page A17

Four years ago, one of the big questions for presidential candidate Al Gore was what role his buddy Bill Clinton would play in the campaign. Answer: not much of one. Clinton was eager to hit the trail; the Goristas demurred.

This time Clinton is fixin' to be on the road quite a bit, promoting his book. But John F. Kerry's folks are looking to use him as much as possible. Maybe four years out of office there's a nostalgia factor kicking in a booming economy and budget surpluses. Clinton let the Kerry folks know he'll do whatever he can.

The publisher, Clinton's aides and the Kerry campaign are working out scheduling for the fall, "looking at synergy," one source said. There'll be some straight book-signing days, some combined signing-campaigning and quite a bit of straight campaigning.

But after the big-city book markets are done, don't be surprised to find Clinton spending a whole lot of time doing book-signing in the battleground states, especially in medium-sized cities, where a presidential visit can dominate the news.

Let's see. The publisher will want four to six hours of book-signing, but that, for Clinton, is scarcely a warm-up. Then perhaps an interview with the local paper and television. Leaves plenty of time for a speech at an area college, rallies with local and state candidates, an exclusive interview with a local political reporter, maybe a fundraiser and then on to the next stop....

1. Why Not Let The Big Dog Sign Books?
Why not let the Big Dog do some book signing? He's charming, personable, a reminder of good economic times, and a lot more congenial company than the crew of his detractors who publish with Regnery or Reagan books.

2. One of Gore's biggest mistakes
aside from picking Lieberman, was to shun Clinton during the campaign. I'm glad to see that the Kerry/Edwards campaign is not going to make the same mistake. Shows you how much confidence Kerry has to be able to let Clinton have some of the spotlight.

6. The recall was not "about Bill OR Ahhhnold" it was about ENRON
and DUKE, and RELIANT and a bunch of other energy companies.. The "powers that be" knew that Davis/Bustamante would pursue the $ettlement$ until we got our money back or ended up OWNING what was left of those companies..

Ahhhnold is just the "meat-puppet" of Pete Wilson.. Wilson was the "fixer" that was working behind the scenes.. Their fundy/pretty boy was supposed to beat Davis in 02, and when that didn;t happen, they just set "plan B" into effect..

Do we "really" know how those defective machines worked anyway??

We are resigned to the Big A squatting in the governor's office for a while, and rest assured..it is the puppeteer Wilson who is pulling the strings..

12. I think all Clinton did was show up at a rally at a black church in LA
if I remember correctly. And what a stink that stirred up. And by the way.....FYI.....that Governorship was stolen ala diebold.

8. So far, so good
I know a lot of people are jumping up and down because Kerry hasn't opened a big lead (mostly to the rhythm of a fundimedia beat). But this is the way I see it:

The Democrats are making all the right moves. Kerry has the most experience of all those seeking the nomination. Edwards has natural charisma, is from an important region and has the ability to throttle the bush mis-administration in a way that Kerry lacks. Plus now they want to use the most successful Democratic politician in over two generations to regain control of the executive branch.

What a difference four years of hell can make on party discipline.

11. That's absolutely true! Being on the executive board
of my union local, I can see more discipline at the local
level of politics as well. :)
