Kerry Takes a Slight Lead in Pennsylvania
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Published: July 14, 2004

Filed at 6:59 a.m. ET

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Democrat John Kerry has moved into a slight lead in the key swing state of Pennsylvania, according to a poll taken just after he chose his running mate.

The Quinnipiac University survey released Wednesday found Kerry was backed by 46 percent of voters, President Bush by 41 percent and independent Ralph Nader by 5 percent.

That's Kerry's largest lead in a three-way race in the state since the Massachusetts senator emerged as his party's presidential pick in March.

A Quinnipiac poll last month showed Kerry and Bush deadlocked, 43 percent to 42 percent, with Nader at 7 percent.

2. As a Pennsylvanian
I am committed to seeing to it that everyone who comes into my office as a patient knows I'm voting for Kerry, and is told to register themselves, their family and theri friends and MAKE THEM VOTE. I have a lower-middle income practice here so it is largely Democratic in need and intent, though apathy runs high. Many are impressed that I'm not fooling around here and are visibly moved to action. I can only hope that it will all be enough to overcome the cheating...

3. Alright!
Don't listen to the AMA! Go ahead and tell them how you're voting and that you want them to register and vote. My husband is just starting out in practice (started Monday, actually), and he's a little more nervous, mostly because he's hired, not on partner track yet, and his partners are Repbulican like, what, 90% of all doctors? Knowing my hubby, he'll go ahead and talk about it anyway whenever he has time or if it comes up. He almost got in trouble with the hospital last year for wearing a Doctors for Dean button on his lab coat--was warned by a nurse to take it off. He told her not to worry, that he would fight it if he had to, and no one ever bothered him again (except for other residents . . . ).

BTW, do you read Placebo Journal? It rocks!

9. Your husband sounds like just what the doctor ordered....
Couldn't resist the pun.

Seriously...good to know that there are doctors out there who aren''t just Republicna Stepford doctors.

And by the way, welcome to DU.

4. How is 5% a slight lead?
Seems pretty substantial to me. If Bush had a 5% lead he'd be described as surging in the polls and all but unstoppable.

8. margin of error ...
"The poll of 1,577 registered voters has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 2.5 percentage points."

That means the lead could be as small as 2.5% or as high as 7.5%.

But I know what you mean.

10. Nader is a real threat in PA
I have no idea why that is. We must have our share of oddball liberals here. (No offense.)

11. Slight lead - my ass!
That's a 7-point lead in a 2-way race, and Nader might not even make tha ballot!
