Maputo - About 40 Mozambicans were holed up on Wednesday in the German embassy in Maputo to press claims that their government was withholding huge sums of money paid by the former East Germany for their social security.
The Mozambicans, representing some 11 000 people who worked in East Germany before the fall of the Berlin Wall, forced their way into the embassy on Tuesday, prompting Ambassador Ulf Dieter Klemm and his staff to abandon the premises.
The envoy and diplomats returned on Wednesday morning and were holding talks with the group.
Meanwhile, hundreds of other Mozambicans who worked in East Germany, held demonstrations in other parts of Maputo on Tuesday.
