Ditka Out; Nugent In?
<snip>

Republican sources say that the Republican Party will now focus on two potential candidates: Jim Oberwies, who finished second in the primary for this nomination, and John Cox, who ran a couple of years ago. Both have the distinction of being multimillionaires.

But another name surfacing is that of rocker, outspoken conservative and gun rights activist Ted Nugent.

"He grew up in Arlington Heights. He went to St. Viator High School," said Cook County Republican Chair Gary Skoien. "He has more connection to Illinois than Hillary Clinton had to New York, and he's been a very articulate spokesperson on constitutional issues. He would be a very interesting candidate."

Nugent couldn't be reached for comment Wednesday night.

6. Nugent would never leave Michigan
and on top of that, he would have 12 days to close on a house and establish residency. He must be a resident no later than July 27 in order to be able to register to vote by August 26 and have the GOP put his name on the ballot on that date.

12. For repukes that stuff doesn't matter
I mean, Scott Paterno, son of Penn State's legendary football coach Joe Paterno, miraculously purchased a home in neighboring District 17 so he could run against dem Tim Holden. Ironically Scott has never show an income tax return where he has made more than $10k/year and yet he managed to buy a $235k house.

15. Yeah, but Nugent has made noise he wants to run for the Senate
in Michigan.

At any rate, he has 12 days and counting. Nobody from out of state can be a candidate after July 27. That's the drop dead date for an out of stater to establish residency in time.

21. That's it?
Any schmuck can move to Illinois, register to vote, and instantly become a resident eligible to run for either house of Congress?

Hell, why settle for Ted Nugent? Can't they get Mel Gibson to move to Illinois? He's far less likely to embarrass the IL GOP than Nugent is.

FWIW, in New York it's ONE YEAR. Hillary had to move by November 1999 to be eligible to run for Senate.

35. I looked into it two days ago
Under the law, one must be a registered voter. To register to vote, one must be a resident for 30 days. Deadline for filing for the Senate - August 26.

This puts deadline to be a resident at July 26th.

so we can see the flood of women pour out of the woodwork who were all underage girls who had sex with Nugent. By his own admission, sexually indiscriminate, but he doesn't do drugs. He sings violent songs about "I'm going to crush your face" (Stanglehold), but at least he doesn't drink. Ok. I could use a good laugh.

28. Nugent is a Michigan resident and he'd have to move pretty fast
He's not that popular here. He had a radio show that went bust the minute Stern entered the Detroit market. Also, he has talked about running for Governor here in 2006, because he fears that the current Governor will take his guns away.

When Hillary ran, she established residency in New York well before the time frame she needed to in order to run. Nugent would have about 2 weeks to do so.

39. Ted is only No. 8
In the Rock and Roll Hall of Sleaze:

8. Ted Nugent Madman; carnivore Best described as: Maniacal Claim to eternal infamy: Though best known today as a guy who'd rather be bow-hunting, the Nuge cut a wide swath through the untamed pubic hair of the 1970s. His crowning achievement occurred in 1978, when Nugent became the legal guardian of a 17-year-old Hawaiian girl in order to have sex with her. He argued that this legal loophole was actually less sleazy than the alternative, although this logic suggests that the possibility of not having sex with 17-year-old girls was never even considered. All you really need to know: "Wang Dang Sweet Poontang" is only the second best song in Nugent's catalog involving the word wang.

40. Republicans now say "lack of experience an asset" - check out this quote
Allan Hug, a spokesman for Americans For Better Choice, which is supporting a possible Ditka candidacy, said Ditka's lack of legislative experience is an asset.

Wait, I though that only applied in 2000 when Bush was running. What about Edwards lack of experience, is that an asset or a bad thing?

Republicans can't seem to decide - they flip flop on the issue every day.

Maybe they're planning to bring Ryan back and this is all being done to make him look good by comparison.

All their choices are certifiable, is that one of their new criteria?

By the way Ditka's name came up because there was a group of Repugs trying to get him to replace Judy Baar Topinka as head of Illinois GOP party after she leaves the position in November. Ditka as head would be even more hilarious than Topinka.
