Headless Corpse in Orange Jumpsuit Found in Iraq
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A headless corpse dressed in an orange jumpsuit has been found by Iraqi police in the Tigris river and handed over to U.S. forces, but it has not yet been identified, a U.S. military spokeswoman said on Thursday.

She said it was not known whether the body was that of a Bulgarian hostage killed by his captors earlier this week. A deadline for the threatened execution of a second Bulgarian hostage passed last night without news. The body was found near Baiji, 110 miles north of Baghdad, on Wednesday night. "The body had been decapitated. It was dressed in an orange jumpsuit," the spokeswoman said.

Video tapes of foreign hostages in Iraq (news - web sites) have often shown them wearing orange jumpsuits, which are typical of U.S. jails and associated around the world with images of Muslims detained at Guantanamo Bay.

A diplomat at the Bulgarian embassy in Baghdad said he was aware that a body had been discovered, but it was not known whether it was one of the captured Bulgarians. The fact the body was headless hindered identification, he said.

1. CNN said that it "could" be the Bulgarian . . . Who else would it be?
How many other people are lying on the side of the road in an Orange jumpsuit without a head?

7. there may well be a lot more of this
Who is to say its just the random apple out there that this happens to? I wonder if anyone ever considered the idea that this may be commonplace and happening all over Iraq, etc.

Not that the people here in the USA would ever hear about it. Silence breeds ignorance.

2. And WHY an orange jumpsuit?
Odd that the terrorist would dress their captives accordingly. Are they sure it's not an overtortured Iraqi prisoner?

4. Someone on DU said before....
...that orange is the 'color of the condemned' in the Muslim world. It's used to intimidate the 'detainees' by making them think they're going to be killed.

5. color of the condemned

If we win this election someone should sent W and !@#$cheney a pair of nice orange t-shirts as a consolation prize, with a note saying they are now condemned to sit through their criminal trials, and possibly, to doing 20-to-life behind bars.

12. Yeah the US uses the orange jumpsuit
to play mind-games in Gitmo, so those interned there believe because of the orange that they could be killed at any time. :-(

6. I've been wondering about this
Where are they getting the orange jumpsuits most or all of the decapitation victims are wearing?

Why did this start happening when the heat was up about the prison tortures? It effectively took the heat off bush* and started the "look they're worse" talk.

Who's doing this sh*t?

13. US military denies Iraqi corpse claims
Iraqi police said they retrieved a second corpse in an orange jumpsuit from the Tigris River early on Friday near the northern Iraqi city of Mosul and turned it over to the United States military.

But a US military spokesman in the area denied all knowledge of the find.

The man, described only as a Westerner, was found floating in the Tigris outside Mosul, 370km north of Baghdad, with his throat slit, said police General Salem Haj Issa.

"The body was handed over to the Americans," Issa said, refusing to link the discovery with a hostage crisis in the area surrounding two Bulgarian truck drivers.
