Kerry Campaign's Attack Backfires
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/07/15/politics/campaign/15report.html

Senator John Kerry, whose campaign demanded to know on Wednesday whether President Bush had read a crucial intelligence assessment on Iraq, did not read the document himself before voting to give the president the authority to go to war, aides later acknowledged.

"Along with other senators, he was briefed on the contents of the N.I.E. by George Tenet and other administration intelligence officials," a Kerry spokesman, Phil Singer, said, referring to the document known as the National Intelligence Estimate.

Mr. Kerry's campaign has challenged Mr. Bush to say whether he read the complete intelligence report before deciding to go to war or whether he read only a one-page summary, which Democrats say gave him none of the dissenting views in the full version.

The Kerry campaign stepped up the attack on Wednesday, sending out an e-mail message with the headline, "Did anyone in the White House read the full National Intelligence Estimate on Iraq?"

3. Yes...
It was up to the president whether or not to act on the intelligence, not a lowly senator.

7. Kerry and Edwards...
need to stressed that BushCo. sold the Iraqi war to all of Congress, the American public and the world with "bad" intelligence. Everyone gave BushCo. a blank check for this war based on the "bad" intelligence and how it was presented by the Chimp and gang. They need to stress that the Chimp and co. pushed their pleas for war as an urgent matter knowing full well the intelligence was questionable. Kerry and Edwards can admit they were wrong for voting for it but they need to stress how the Chimp and Co. sold this war not just to Congress but to the rest of world. Show how we were all misled!

18. See, my problem is the "blank check."
I don't want to give one of those no matter how grim the emergency.

And NONE of our war-voting senators seems to have any problem with it.

22. Attacking Kerry and not answering directly indicates Bu$h did not read
the report. If Bu$h had read the report, they could have answered with a simple "yes".

8. This is truly stupid! Analysts read these reports and condense them...
into briefs for the senator.

Remember the one-page PDB that Bush* didn't even bother to read?

Which is worse here?

11. Kerry wasnt' the one to decide to go to war
based on this information.

W said many time that the decision was his and his alone. W was the one with the homework to do, not Kerry.

14. Please don't feed the trolls.
If you do they'll grow strong as the Nazis did and be your prison guard at Arizona Gitmo.

What ARE your plans for job security in the future Imperial Amerika of Bootlicking Slaves (like some Jeepers Creepers I know)?

I bet I can guess. I bet it involves a hot climate and sadism.

Do tell...

21. This backfired only in the minds of the coprophagic freepers
and other Night of the Broken Glass republicans. It did not backfire among people who love this country. Bush lied - thousands died.
